Family sessions sound fun… until you start thinking about the logistics as a parent.
“What if my child doesn’t cooperate?”
“What if they won’t smile?”
That’s where a little preparation, and I, come in. 🤍
Bringing snacks, water, or a favorite comfort toy can make a huge difference. During sessions, I like to keep things relaxed and playful. I’ll often let the kiddos “help” by taking a photo of mom and dad, and they love seeing the pictures they took afterward.
Breaks are always okay, too. Sometimes those little pauses create the perfect opportunity for sweet candid moments and a few photos of just mom and dad.
I also use prompts, movement, and games to encourage candid smiles and natural interactions instead of stiff posing. Giving children small guided choices, such as whether they want to hold mom’s hand or dad’s, helps them feel comfortable and involved.
Most importantly, I will never force a child into a pose or prompt. Every child is different, every family is different, and every session is meant to meet your family where they are. The goal isn’t perfection, it’s capturing connection.
