The event (June 6, 1810)

The problem: A drought left the local gristmill without enough water to operate.

The plan: A group of men dug a channel to divert water from Long Pond to the Barton River to power the mill.

The disaster: The channel broke through the natural dam, and the entire pond (estimated at 2 billion gallons) emptied in about 90 minutes.

The flood: A massive wall of water, mud, and trees surged down the valley, destroying mills, bridges, and buildings, but miraculously, no lives were lost.

The aftermath: The flood created fertile soil, and the event is remembered as a mix of disaster and blessing.

The day didn’t rush in — it arrived softly.
Golden light spilling over the hills, bare branches holding space, the sun pausing just long enough to be noticed.
This was one of those days that asked nothing of me but presence. A reminder that even in quiet, there is power. Even in stillness, there is warmth.
I didn’t plan this moment — the day simply presented itself, and I listened. 🌅✨

This is Paws. He is a ball of energy and sass. Always keeping his mind busy. I started my first house/pet sitting officially with him and it's been 2 years of a bond I wasn't sure I needed until he came into my life. I have been accompanying him while his mommy Aven Snow and her family vacations. They have opened opportunities for me I am so grateful for. ❤️
