Another fun little post about the EJP process...
I'll always speak on the elephant in the room. Photography is expensive. Professional photographers... are expensive. Most people think we just push buttons and throw filters on. I'm often asked what filter I'm using on my EJP photos. The thing is.. sometimes I'll spend 30 minutes.. even an hour... editing one image. It's not always, but usually there's one shot with every client that makes me want to just keep going.
When you get a gallery, you'll see the same image edited 2, 3 + times more often than not. I'll play with tones, get weird with colors, add a lot of whimsy and "magic". I also will edit with a crisp clean, "Jaime" style and spend just a few minutes on an image.
This was a fun example of my indecisive mind, playing with different tools in different ways, and the end game. I've had gen Z tell me my photos look too "AI". Or some that think they're too much color. A girl loves her contrast, what can I say!
These are in order:
1. TRUE RAW photo- camera to computer.
2. Raw processed jpegs (what I send to clients in their proof gallery- edited for light, contrast and sometimes sharpness)
3. A standard, clean edit. I've perfected my base line process and created an action that 99.999% of photos get. I'll make a few image necessary adjustments individually, but for the most part, this is my standard edit. Every wedding photo I shoot will have this level or more of editing.
4. When you purchase edits, your photos will have this level of edit or more. Getting rid of eye sores, retouching skin/clothing, adding a few little touches. With weddings, a good half get this level. Photos that end up in my hand designed wedding albums, printed for gifts or large prints on the walls get a little extra TLC!
5. Sometimes I go crazy pants (almost always, actually) and do these super soft but vibrant, full of light and color "magical/ethereal/whimsical" photos. As much as I've tried to pull back color and do just the simple stuff, I can't. Wedding collections come with a certain # of these fun edits.
