The way I see the world.

It’s 2017 and I am at Speed Week with the Rolling Bones Circus. I have schlepped my film cameras out to the salt flats in the attempt to capture the happenings and stories on the salt. While there are many stories this particular one was Bill chasing a record in the Rolling Bones built 532. It was a challenging few days with the heat, mechanical issues and not the best salt conditions but every time I saw Bill he had his trademark hand-rolled cigarette in hand and a smile on his face. While I don’t remember the final speeds from this adventure I sure as hell remember the lifetime friends I made. This car is now in the more than capable hands of caretaker Dustin Corl, reborn, fine-tuned and better than ever. More on this continuing story coming soon…

I am so blessed to have amazing opportunities come through my LEGENDS/passing project. On Saturday, May 30th I had the honor of being invited to the 85th birthday celebrating for Robert “Bones” Balogh. Bones and ISKY Iskenderian were very close friends and Norma Iskenderian, Ed’s daughter-in-law, very kindly arranged for me to set up a studio at the Lions Automobilia Museum before the celebration and make a portrait of Mr. Balogh.

2020 drag racing hall of fame inductee Bones Balogh has lived an amazing life and has the incredible stories to go along with that. It has been such a pleasure to be able to sit with some of these legends and just listen to stories of life and drag racing history. In 2019 The Rolling Bones were in SoCal for GNRS and sharing the new Dennis Varni build for the very first time. The car was delivered a day early to my home in Pomona (that’s a whole other story that I’ll share in the future on my Patreon page) and immediately following GNRS Ken had asked me to photograph the car at El Mirage for their next book, “The Book of GOW”. Unfortunately when we arrived at the edge of the dry lake bed it wasn’t so dry as it had rained a few days before so I had to quickly come up with alternatives. Even the road into El Mirage is quite recognizable so I decided to make some photos there. Just off the road there was a cool Joshua tree so I also made a few shots there. To wrap it up we drove up the back roads a bit and found a little empty dirt road and we made more photos there. These are a few of the photos from that day.

In 2018 I had the incredible honor of interviewing a hero of mine and a legend in skateboarding and photography history – J. Grant Brittan. In the 80’s and beyond if you had any interest in Skateboarding you likely have seen his work. In 1983 he was one of the founders of TransWorld SKATEboarding and photographed so many of the early legends of the sport who influenced the world through the power of magazines. His work was and is a significant influence on mine and he is kind, humble and he is still passionately photographing skateboarding culture today.

It was Mr. Brittain’s birthday yesterday so please wish him a very happy birthday! Thank you sir for all you have done for both skateboarding and photography! It was a honor to have met you and to have the chance to share your story.

Please join me in wishing my sister-in-law Janet a very happy birthday! This is a follow up to an incredibly powerful portrait that we made together six years ago. You can see that portrait on my other Instagram account and read the story of what made that portrait so meaningful to me. It is the second portrait that I ever shared to that page (immediately following a portrait of my wife of course) and I will remember that moment until I have no more memories.

Please take a moment and send birthday wishes to my incredible sister-in-law. I am so blessed to have such an incredible family and extended family who have taken me into their wonderful circle and shared so much with me.

It was 2021 and I was on the trip of a lifetime. The Rolling Bones were in the UK and the trip was planned exceptionally with days at Goodwood, drives through the British countryside (on the wrong side of the road!) on tiny, shoulder-less country roads, meals at historic pubs and so much more. This photograph was on the day that we went to the historic Brooklands Motor Circuit. There was a bridge far above the banked track and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to line up the hot rods and make some shots. From this angle they almost look like toy cars but I can personally promise you that they are not. Every single one of these hot rods were shipped from the USA, driven at Goodwood and made the not inconsequential drive to Brooklands and back – driven, like hot rods should be.
