In 2018, I had the opportunity to visit the Chaco ruins after dark with National Parks At Night. Seeing them in the moonlight and quiet reinforced the special nature of this place. It needs to be protected

Chaco Canyon is amazing by itself. A huge complex of multistory buildings constructed over a thousand years ago. But that is only part of the story. It was the hub of a network of roads that stretched arrow straiight across hundreds of miles of desert. Without satellites, surveying equipment or even wheeled vehicles. They traded across the Americas. They had pens for parrots imported from Central America. For no good reason this is being put at risk and treaties with the indigenous trtibes are being abrogated

At the top of Fajada Butte near Chaco Culture is one an amazingly sophisticated archeoastronomy site. A thousand year ago the ancestral puebloans demonstrated a brilliant grasp of the movement of the heavens. This is another site put at risk by Trump.
