Peonies, golden light, and a love that feels easy 🌸

A warm afternoon outdoors, a bouquet bursting with pink peonies and protea, and two people who couldn't stop smiling at each other.

Planning tip: bring your bouquet to portraits, even the candid ones. It adds color, gives nervous hands something to do, and makes every frame feel like a wedding day without trying.

Lying down on the job, and nailing it 😌

Sometimes the best portrait direction is just: get comfy and let the moment happen. A tuxedo, a veil, and one very relaxed groom.

Planning tip: build a few minutes of unplanned time into your couple portraits. When nobody is posing, you get the real, relaxed moments, and those are the photos you'll frame.

Window light, a long train, and a quiet moment all her own 🤍

Before the music and the crowd, there's this: tall windows, soft light, and a gown that looks like it was made for exactly this spot.

Planning tip: when you choose your getting ready room, look for big windows and a little open floor space. Natural light does more for a portrait than any lamp, and the extra room means your train gets its moment too.

Sand in our shoes and absolutely no regrets 🌊

A beach afternoon, a wooden pier for shade, and a couple who turned a simple walk into the sweetest session.

Planning tip: for a beach engagement shoot, bring a pair of shoes you can kick off and a light layer like a denim jacket. Sand and wind are part of the fun, and a cozy layer keeps the smiles real when the ocean breeze shows up.

Rolling hills, golden light, and zero spooky business 🍂

Happy Halloween! The only thing haunting this frame is how good that sunset glow looks on a hillside of vines.

Planning tip: if your venue sits in the hills, ask your photographer to scout the highest nearby spot. A short walk uphill can buy you an extra 20 minutes of sunset light while the valley is already in shadow.

Old stone walls and a veil with main character energy 🤍

Lantern glow on stone, a lace back that deserves its own slow motion, and a long veil that catches the breeze like it rehearsed.

Planning tip: if you love the look of a cathedral veil, keep one person on veil duty for portraits. A gentle toss on a breezy hillside makes magic, and a helper makes sure it lands somewhere other than a bush.

Golden hour called. We answered 🌅

Warm backlight, a pink peony bouquet, and that look that says you'd marry this person all over again.

Planning tip: ask your photographer what time golden hour falls on your wedding date, then sneak away for 15 minutes during dinner or right after. Your guests will be busy with dessert, and you'll come back glowing (literally).

Garden wedding on film, in motion 🌿

A white arbor, a bouquet in deep reds and blush, and a couple who made portrait time look easy.

Planning tip: schedule your couple portraits about an hour before sunset if you can. The light goes soft and warm, the garden glows, and you'll still have time to make it back for cocktails.

The quiet minute before the big moment ✨

Sheer curtains, soft backlight, and a bride taking one last breath before it all begins.

Planning tip: build five spare minutes into your getting ready timeline right after you're dressed. It's the calmest moment of the whole day, and some of my favorite portraits happen right there, before anyone yells that the car is here.

Save this for your timeline, and visit josephhenry.photography when you're ready to talk photos.

Officially married and walking like it 🎉

That first walk back down the aisle is pure joy: petals underfoot, everyone cheering, and the happiest hand holding of the whole day.

Planning tip: when you walk back up the aisle, slow down! Take a beat halfway, look at each other, maybe sneak a kiss. Your photographer gets three times the moments, and you get to actually soak it in.
