Fresh off a new Billboard feature, Mexican Institute of Sound and Meridian Brothers bring the Ruido Tovar tour to Los Angeles tomorrow night.

The project is a tribute to Mexican cumbia icon Rigo Tovar, blending tropical music, psychedelia, electronic sounds, guitars, synthesizers, and full-on cumbia-punk energy.

Camilo Lara describes the live show as a “postmodern cumbia-punk-rock orchestra”—nine musicians onstage pushing these songs into something completely new.

The album also features a collaboration with Beck on “Ritmo Babilonia,” alongside tracks including “Cumbia Beckiana,” “Cumbia del Lobo,” “Ira (IA),” “Cumbia Fantasía,” and “Cumbia de los Estudiantes.”

Tomorrow, we get to experience it live.

Ruido Tovar (LP) is the result of a binational (under) cumbia collaboration of CDMX's Mexican Institute of Sound Camilo Lara and Bogotá’s Meridian Brothers MERIDIANBROTHERS where Beck features on two tracks, with one titled “Cumbia Beckiana”.

The album explores a very special time for the Mexican Cumbia. The time of “El ídolo de las multitudes”. The time when synths and electric guitars ruled over the tropical sounds. Roughly 1971-1982.
