Y’all I’m so bad at social media - I meant to share this group for “Wildflower Wednesday” last week. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I want you to see them and don’t want to wait for this Wednesday (I mean, my posts don’t HAVE to alliterate, i have to remind myself lol)

Every so often, I detach my 400mm 2.8/f and switch it with a wide angle lens to take a stab at some landscape. Still sans tripod 😏 Here’s a few favorites from the end of July. Fireweed (first and last photos) is my favorite & it’s still blooming! One of the last wildflowers to bloom in the summer, it flourishes in areas that are often burned in the height of summer, eventually giving way to other flowering plants while it’s seeds lie dormant in soil waiting their chance to revegetate areas after devastating burns. “When fireweed turns to cotton, summer will soon be forgotten” - Alaska folk saying - ty Elizabeth

For the Beartooth goats, July comes with three certainties:
1) abundant food, many species at peak bloom and access
2) blowing that winter coat, in clumps and awkward stages, and 3) that weird camera girl is going to be laying in the meadows with you, contorting to strange angles, handholding a ten pound camera 🫶

For the past several weeks I have been lucky enough to help socialize a couple of arctic wolf puppies. I get to play with them, hug them, kiss them, desensitize them to ear/paw/mouth manipulation and general handling…

I have experience working with animals for the last 18 years… at an AZA zoo, wildlife rehabilitation center, and photographing wildlife - let me tell you, the amount of “unlearning” I am doing lol I have to force myself to do things that feel so foreign to me. The goal of wildlife rehabilitation is to prevent habituation; or observing wildlife to photograph them in the GYE as naturally as possible; to, literally, scooping up a wolf puppy to tell them they are a silly girl… it’s pretty wild 🤣

Sweet Sierra is a bit more timid than her sister, but still very curious of me and accepting of rubs and engagement. Sitka is a very brave girl and loves to be the first to explore new things. Anyway, it’s Wolf Wednesday and I wanted to introduce the babies 🥹🐺
