Leonne and David apologized for being awkward before I even picked up my camera. By the end of our portrait session, we were joking around like old friends (orange theory!!)

Some of my favorite sessions start exactly like this one. The nerves, the laughing at nothing, the “I don’t know what to do” energy. Watching it all melt away and seeing what’s left is just the two of you being real with each other.

Don’t let a week be the reason you don’t get the photographer you wanted.

I had a couple reach out, in love with my work and so excited to work together, but I was already booked on their date. If they had just reached out one week earlier; they would have had a different outcome. They decided to book with my associate team, which I am so excited for as my associates are incredible and I’m involved throughout the entire process. But they didn’t get to choose that. That decision was made for them.

The moment you have your venue date confirmed is when you should be finalizing your photographer.

Most couples dread the idea of posing for photos.

For the first few minutes, you’re in your own heads and your bodies tense up. So we just walk and talk. I give you something to do with your hands, somewhere to look, and remind you to relax your shoulders and bend your knees. But somewhere between the laughs and moving around, things start to change.

I stop needing to remind you to roll your shoulders back. You stop thinking about what to do with your hands and your bodies settle.

By the end, we’re watching the sunset like old friends catching up and I happen to have a camera.

You spend so much of your time taking care of everyone else, but for once, your wedding day is not the day to perform. It’s just to show up and I’ll take care of everything else.

Nobody talks about how quiet the San Francisco Coty Hall gets when it’s just the two of you.

Like most couples, Kimberly and Yi walked in nervously. They were camera shy, not sure where to look, and worried they wouldn’t know how to pose or what to do.

But after 10 minutes of guidance and direction, they started to settle into the grand space City Hall has to offer. They stopped worrying where we were going next or what to do with their hands and feet because I was with them every step of the way.

It was my first time at the Santa Barbara Courthouse, and wow was it totally worth the drive.

The grounds are even more lush in person. Palm trees, white walls, that SoCal light doing exactly what you want it to do. I’ve been wanting to make this trip for a while, and putting together this shoot with and felt like the right reason to finally do it.

Huge thanks to and for helping me bring this to life. A true dream come true.
