I & J added something most couples don’t know they can request for their wedding day.

Alongside photography, they added on content creation for their wedding day at San Francisco City Hall. Candid clips of the day captured in real time. Content creation is a different service than photography. Photography is for the composed, intentional images, you print and frame to enjoy for years to come. Content creation is more like a home video, viewing the small in between moments, and you get the clips back by the end of the same day.

I & J walked into San Francisco City Hall so nervous you could feel it a mile away.

But the thing no one realizes is that the space in City Hall moves fast. You get one pass through the rotunda, a short window with the judge, and no rehearsal for any of it. So before their ceremony, we walked through the space as I guided them through what to do, where to stand, and how to hold each other. Slowly, the nerves slipped away. By the time they said their “I do’s,” they weren’t thinking about the camera anymore.

Every detail at this table was chosen with a reason behind it. String lights woven through the greenery instead of hung bare. Candlelight instead of anything harsher. Chairs close enough that conversation could travel down the table without anyone raising their voice.

Don’t get me wrong, a table like this photographs beautifully, but that is not the true goal. The goal was giving your grandmother, your college roommates, and everyone in between a few hours where they felt like they were actually there with you, not just watching your wedding happen around them.

Curating the space you celebrate in plays a bigger part in the experience you have.

M & N had their dog with them the entire time they got ready and he was the calmest one in the room.

The morning getting ready part of the wedding day is one of the few quiet stretches in the whole day. Once photo start, everyone starts asking questions like “where do we stand, what’s next, can we get this shot before the ceremony?” I keep that morning small on purpose so M could actually be in it instead of managing it.

And their dog stayed right there through all of it, crawled up next to her while she got her hair done, leaning into her like he already knew what the day meant. He was the most cuddly unbothered presence in the room, and somehow that made everyone else settle down too.

By the time she put her dress on the room had gone quiet in a good way. That’s the version of the morning I want every couple to have. Time with the ones who matter most, four legs included, before the day gets loud.

Hello and welcome from the Danya Chen Photography team!

We’re a San Francisco Bay Area based photography and videography team, and we travel throughout California, from Napa and Sonoma down through Carmel and Big Sur, into Los Angeles, Malibu, Orange County, and San Diego, plus Hawaii and beyond.

I’m Danya, the one wearing all the hats around here. 12 years into wedding photography and what still gets me is the stuff no one can plan for, the glances across the room, the way two families become one. My job is to be the calm in the middle of your day so all you feel later is the love.

Erica and Miguel are our husband and wife photography duo. Married 10 years, photographing weddings together for almost 12, and they’ve documented over 150 couples together. They found this work through word of mouth, and it shows in how personally they treat every wedding.

Toni is based in the East Bay and has spent the last four years photographing weddings with a storytelling approach rooted in connection. She fell in love with photography while planning her own wedding in 2021, and her favorite part of the day is cocktail hour, when couples finally get to relax and soak it all in.

Grace grew up in Washington State and has spent the last four years photographing weddings with a heart for genuine connection. As a mom to a toddler herself, she has a special appreciation for moments like the mother-son dance, and she’s always tuned into the energy of the room.

Our videography team is Jeremy and Rob. Jeremy has been photographing weddings since 2011 and lives for the in-between moments no one poses for, the reactions, not the actions. Rob has been filming weddings since 2018 and keeps every moment natural and true to who you are. Together they make sure you can watch your day back exactly as it felt.

Matthew is our content creator. He joined the team in late 2025 and spends the day catching the small, easily missed moments, like the kids laughing during cocktail hour or the side conversations no one else notices, all while lending an extra hand wherever it’s needed.

It took 6 “no’s” and 3 “maybe’s” to finally get a “YES!”

Every “no” was a mismatch. Something was misaligned, maybe the vision or budget, or sometimes it’s just the wrong fit.

The “maybe’s” are still figuring it out, which is fair. Sometimes you’ll want to turn over every rock before you pick your favorite one.

But then came the “YES!” A couple whose budget wasn’t the number I had in mind. But the number wasn’t really the conversation. They weren’t asking about deliverables, hours of coverage, or what’s included in which package.

What they wanted was peace and security. They wanted to actually be present on their wedding day, not spend it being pulled around 5 different directions.

After our priorities were aligned, they met my team. They met my associate photographer, Erica, and then my videographer, Jeremy. They told me every team member they had met so far made them feel seen and safe. Everything already felt handled before a single contract was signed. They trusted us before they’d even booked.

That’s the part that matters most. Not the portfolio, not the style, not how trendy the photos are. They were looking for the feeling that someone’s actually got you, and they found it with us.

That’s what I’m building with every couple I work with, not just the ones who say yes on the first try.
