Listen, I'm not here to debate the efficacy or morality of AI. It's here, everyone is using it, everyone has a stance on it. But I get asked more and more often by moms especially, "do you use AI editing software to edit newborn photos?" I don't.

I don't put my own children's images into any AI engines and I don't put your children's images into them either. I use Lightroom and Photoshop, I hand edit each image that you decide to invest in.

And I do this not so much from a moral or safety standpoint, though I totally empathize with moms on this concern ...

I do it because I truly believe in keeping your photography experience a human experience.

Even the smoothest pregnancy, the most by-the-books adoption, a surrogacy that was marked by no hiccups or medical challenges or geographic distance. Every story of creating a family, building a family, growing a family ... is at some level a story of overcoming challenge. Of redemption in a way, of resiliency.

Maybe that challenge was one of fear or the fact that your family's story began unplanned. Maybe IVF and its myriad hardships were chapters for you. Maybe, like this sweet family, recent years had seen parental loss and extreme illness.

When mothers share their stories with me, invite me into their homes, trust me with their babies, I want them to know that I step into that space with such a tender heart for the various ways we become mothers. What we bring to the experience, what colors how we step into that role.

I hope to deliver gorgeous photos to you, of course - but I also hope to be a soft place for your stories to rest. A person you can trust, talk to and depend on to approach this chapter of your life with the care, reverence and the intentionality it deserves.

Why would you let your photographer handle the proofing process? Or buy art from them in the first place?

From a technical standpoint, you get the right ratios and resolution, you don’t have to rely on sub-par ordering software and poorly calibrated machines that mess up your colors. And if your photographer hits some of those hurdles somewhere…it’s literally off your plate, they’ll deal with it.

PLUS, for me, I’m very intentional about who I print with. I currently partner with SIX different vendors - some larger high end print studios for some things, some local Georgia mom-owned businesses for other (like 👆🏼) and I spend a lot of time ordering, vetting, reviewing, comparing, asking questions, packaging and really making sure that the art I offer the families who have trusted me to document their memories reflects the same level of care they’ve come to expect from me.

If you have thousands of images on your phone or on the cloud or in a folder somewhere, it’s feels SO good to take even just a few and get them beautifully displayed.

This might have been my last in-home milestone session.

Set up in the same room we took this sweet girl's newborn photos. Light pouring in from the same door. Sitting her in the same baskets and marveling at how much she's grown. New giggles, new curiosity. All the smiles and messy cake.

Does this mean I'm done photographing your growing babies? Finished celebrating those 3, 6, 8 month milestones and being all in when it comes to marking one year? NOPE! Absolutely not.

Only pivoting. How, when and where I'm offering milestone sessions like these. And most importantly, how I'm thoughtfully curating the experience to align with the deeply connected and intentional approach I bring to all my work.

One thing I know to be true, you can always find bearers of hope in the world.

When I'm offered the gift of photographing newborns - babies brought into a world that can often feel heavy - I get to be around those people. The people who believe there is still joy and color and beauty worthy of bringing life into. They're often the people laughing, they have the biggest hearts. And I'm lucky enough to be welcomed into their homes and, for a brief time, into their stories.

I think that's why I always leave newborn sessions feeling like the world is a little brighter, that things will be okay. That there's hope.
