There's something so poetic about maternity photos in the fall. The changing seasons and turning leaves mirroring the shift in your body, your family, your life, your identity.

If you're expecting a baby in early 2027, I'm saving space for you specifically within this short window. Let's chat cooler temperatures and locations where we can catch the beautiful colors of fall as the backdrop to your maternity session.

(I offer a maternity add-on option that's all inclusive and flat-rate when booked alongside your in-home newborn sessions. It helps keep things simple as you plan for baby's arrival and your to-do list seems to grow and grow.)

What's the first thing you did when you found out you were pregnant? You no doubt remember where you were, who you were around, an overwhelming wash of all the emotions ... I immediately thought, "okay, what do I do now?"

As we head into fall and I've started to to book newborn sessions in early 2027, my heart keeps coming back to mamas expecting this season. Cozy season, busy sports season, back to school season, heading into holidays season. If this is you and you're wondering, "when do I book maternity photos?" I've created a post for you.

It's a maternity photo timeline with tips, advice, a note on gender reveals and above all, permission to celebrate YOU before baby arrives. To document this chapter before it all changes.

Trust me, your little one will look at this image over and over and over through the years, asking "is this when I was in your tummy? tell me about that time mommy." It's the most beautiful thing ever.

When I had my daughter seven years ago, having our photographer come to our home didn't cross my mind. We took her to a lovely studio and cherish the photos from that session. But when I had my son two years later, it was the only way to do it - with a two year old running around, freshly out of the pandemic, in a new community ... it was a lot.

My newborn photographer spending the morning at our home was such a gift of care and service.

As I've grown in my own motherhood and newborn photographer journey, I've also grown to see what I do as so much more than taking pretty pictures. While I hope you love your photos and you print them and put them in albums and have them on your walls for years to come, what I truly is hope is this:

That when you look at your photos, you remember a tender time another mother came to your home in those early days; the care and attention she put into designing your session; the safe and gentle way she handled your new baby; the connection she made with your toddler; how easy it was to talk to her as you sat in the nursery rocker and watched her work; how when she left you felt at peace and at ease, settling back into the rhythms of your home.

If this experience resonates with you, I'm booking babies into 2027 and would love to reserve your due date on my calendar.

Your photographer shouldn't be a stranger when you meet.

I've had family photo experiences where it was very clear we were a number. And during some seasons of life, that may be okay - a quick in and out, no need for names or real conversation.

I do things differently.

It's not uncommon for me to know your washing machine flooded from the second floor of your home and you had to deal with that to make it to your session. Or that your son loves to throw "old man" expressions during photos and you'd really love to get some pics with his authentic and natural smile if possible. Or if you don't care about getting a photo with "everyone looking and smiling" (which has me cheering fyi!!) but you want your photos to really feel like the playful family you are.

When you show up, you know a little about my heart for family photography too and it's clear that you're not on the clock. Your kid doesn't need to jump out of the car and start performing. We don't have to hustle because another family is right behind you.
.. and y'all when a mama with two littles and a flooded house takes a second to leave me a sweet review like this after her fall family session, it solidifies in my heart that this low-volume, connection-forward and child-led approach is the best way to go!

Full Love Note below: 🤍

What a truly amazing experience to work with Jess! I loved the detail involved in her intake forms because I think she was able to get a good sense of my family and what kinds of photo experience we were looking for, and she was great with communicating before and after the shoot.

She was wonderful with our chaotic 4 year old and was super patient and kind during our session. I love the photos, too, and feel like they're the icing on the cake to a great experience.

I would definitely recommend Jessica Grace Photography to anybody interested in a great family photo session!

An expecting mama said to me during a recent session, "I almost didn't add this on to my newborn photos" and it got me thinking.

How many expecting mamas who book me as their newborn photographer skipped maternity photos?

Your baby so quickly becomes your everything - every thought, every effort to prepare for the birth and create a beautiful nursery, every purchase to make sure you have what you need once they arrive.

It's surprisingly easy to forget that before there was your baby, there was YOU.

In all your powerful, beautiful glory growing that baby inside your ever changing body. And that version of you mama, that version deserves to be treasured, photographed and documented for the magic that it's creating.

As an Atlanta newborn photographer, I offer expecting mamas an add-on that makes remembering maternity photos easy ... it's flat rate. You receive a fully edited digital gallery for download and print.

It's intentional and precious, a pause before baby to document well what came before.

My fall family calendar is closed, but if this sounds like you and you're expecting towards the end of 2026 or early 2027 (I'm booking newborns into the new year), reach out. Let's connect and chat about making space for you before everything changes.

What I remember:

A backyard garden. A beautiful grandmother. A sleepy sister coming downstairs from a nap worried I might be "taking her baby brother!" (But who warmed to me quickly, as toddlers often do.) And a mom who took time to send me the sweetest voice note of gratitude and encouragement that I'll pull up and listen to when things seem hard still today.

Plus curls. The best curls.

If you're looking for an Atlanta newborn photographer who values this level of connection and memory keeping, we may be a good fit 🤍

One thing I love about the intimacy of in-home newborn photography is that they give us time and space to connect. To whatever level feel right for your family.

Some parents like to curl up on the couch together and watch. Some families, like this family I've had the opportunity to photography several times since their son came into their lives, shared their story with me. Where they'd travelled from and how they landed in Tucker, Georgia.

Y'all, I admired their wedding photos framed around the house and we spent some time watching their STUNNING wedding video from Italy. Mom even took time to take some behind the scenes pictures and videos of me working and shared them with me! (I can't tell you how valuable this is as it's tricky to document the process when your baby and their safety is my main focus.)

When I say "it's more than snapping a shutter," this is what I mean. We get to be present in each other's lives for just a little bit. So if you're looking for an Atlanta newborn photographer who is accessible, prioritizes value over volume and approaches your session as she would her friend's, you're in the right place.

And then she goes and leaves me a sweet little review, honestly the best!
