How about a bit of history on last night's fire building! Many people from Lewistown and outside of our town love the old buildings and many times they're history becomes forgotten and once they've been destroyed like last night's fire, the history is more likely to be forgotten.
This building can first be traced back to 1896 as wood working 1st floor, painting & bench working 2nd basement floor, and a clay grinding Bnst. In 1896 it was part of a larger business, R.H Montgomery Coach shops. By 1904 the building and business had changed, the building was now just for wood working, and the business was now H.B Montgomery, planning mill. By 1910 the H.B Montgomery business was still operating out of that site, but had expanded further towards depot street and was no longer just a lumber mill but a contractor. By 1923 the business was still going strong as H.B Montgomery, but the building was longer being used for wood working and was now as a vacant property.
Unfortunately i wasn't able to find much history on it after 1923 since the available sanborn maps don't go past 1923, but feel free to fill in the gaps in the comments!
