This is what happens when the photographer needs new headshots.

A quick selfie session in the studio. My favorite backdrop, a flatiron to add some sass to my hair, my favorite lipstick (always in my purse) and off we go.

Giving myself directions in my head is the weird part. The outcome shows I must have listened. 😂

Creating different expressions and emotions is always the best part of any session. What you see here is just a small fraction of the variety I got of myself.

The snorkel gear is by the door. So are the hiking sandals, a stack of books I have been saving for exactly this, and one too many swimsuits because St. Thomas deserves options.

My whole family is heading to an AirBnB on the island this week. There is something about that particular shade of Caribbean blue and a calendar with genuinely nothing on it that resets something deep.

What makes it possible to actually leave is knowing the work does not stop because I do. The newsletter is going out tomorrow. The content is queued.

Everything is ready.

Building something that keeps moving when I step away is one of the better things I have done for this business.

"I just need one headshot"

When a request like this comes in, I like to ask a few questions to better understand the intent of their request. This will determine which type of session I would recommend.

- Is your employer sending you to me for a "new hire" headshot? To fit their brand look (backdrop, outfit and expression)?

Most entrepreneurs book a branding session when they are ready to launch something.

Some of my best thinking happens in the easy chair.

Music is playing softly. The laptop open. No session to get ready for, no client to guide — just me and the question I keep coming back to:

Is this what my clients actually need?

That is the question I sit with every time I work on the course I am building. I start with the framework, then start layering content. It's foundational work.

Being the researcher (hello Enneagram 5 friends) that I am, I stop and try to step back, let it sit and marinate. Looking at it with fresh eyes, I ask again. Does it deliver? Does it actually get her to the result I am promising?

Because I am not willing to put something out into the world that I have not genuinely worked through.

That is not how I photograph. It is not how I run a session. And it is not how I build anything that carries my name.

More about what I am building soon. For now, just know it is being made the way it should be — slowly, carefully, and entirely with you in mind.
