Okay, so this might be one of my favorite sessions ever. 🥹🌺

This family is one of my regular families back home in Orange County, and somehow, this year, our annual family photo session ended up happening in Maui.

As soon as I had locked in our dates for our trip, the Hodges family booked their dates to align so we could make this happen.

And when I say I am grateful for this family, I really mean it.

I’ve had clients drive into Orange County from all over Southern California — and even from other states — just to have me photograph their families. I never take that kind of trust for granted.

But having a client actually coordinate their vacation with mine so we could keep our yearly tradition going?

That one hits a little differently. ❤️

And naturally, because this is my life and apparently even vacation can’t be completely normal, our Maui trip also included riding out Hurricane Lala and nearly 20 hours without electricity. 😂

Which means very bored children stuck inside.

So while the hurricane definitely added some unexpected chaos to the trip, I’m just really grateful that we got to make these memories — and these photos — before all of that happened.

Same family. Same photographer. New backdrop. 🌴

I’m so incredibly grateful for the families who continue to trust me year after year, follow me along for the ride, and let me keep documenting their lives — even when the “ride” takes us all the way to Maui.

These are the kinds of relationships that make this job so much more than taking pictures. ❤️

Extended family sessions are a whole different kind of beautiful chaos... and I absolutely love them. ❤️

People often ask why extended family sessions are priced differently than a typical family session, and honestly... it's because we're creating so much more than one big group photo.

During a single session, we're usually photographing:
✨ The entire family together.
✨ Each individual family.
✨ Grandparents with all the grandkids.
✨ Grandparents with their adult children.
✨ Grandparents with each family.
✨ Individual portraits of every grandchild.
✨ Special parent/child combinations that don't happen very often.
..and sometimes even more.

This sweet family had 23 people. Twenty-three personalities. Twenty-three smiles. Twenty-three sets of eyes that all need to be looking at the camera at the same time. 😂

Spoiler alert: they aren't.

Someone blinks.
A toddler decides today is not picture day.
Someone glances at Grandma.
Someone makes the baby laugh at exactly the wrong moment.

That's where a lot of the magic happens after the session.

Behind the scenes, I'm carefully editing those large group portraits—swapping heads, fixing blinks, combining the best expressions—so everyone looks their best. It's one of the most time-consuming parts of my editing process, but it's worth every minute.

Because years from now, these won't just be photos.

They'll be the picture that hangs in Grandma and Grandpa's home.
The one the grandkids look back on when they're grown.
The image that becomes even more valuable as the years pass.

Yes, extended family sessions are a little chaotic.

But they're the kind of chaos that's completely worth preserving. ❤️

✨Senior Sunday ✨

This one feels extra special. I first photographed Elle’s family back in 2018, and over the years I’ve had the chance to capture so many milestones for them — including her older sister’s senior photos in 2022.

And if you’ve ever done a Christmas tree farm session with me, there’s a very good chance you’ve already met Elle. She’s been one of my amazing assistants the past couple of years, helping wrangle kids, fluff dresses, carry props, and basically keep the chaos fun. 🤍

So getting to photograph her for her own senior session was such an honor.

Her Laguna Beach session was the perfect mix of country girl + Orange County beach vibes, and somehow fit her personality so perfectly. Boots in the sand, baby’s breath, ocean cliffs, golden light… all of it.

Next stop: the University of South Carolina this fall for a brand new adventure. ✨

So proud of you, Elle — and so grateful I’ve gotten to watch this chapter unfold over the years. 🎓🤍
