I’ve been working on updating, revising, refreshing a lot of backend stuff lately and that means digging through my archives to replace 10 year old photos with 3 year old ones. Like these, our Christmas in Seoul.

I preach this s**t all day, every day, and I still get caught off guard when I see pictures from the not-so-distant past of my own kids. You mean to tell me Yara was really that small? Her hair that curly?? Literally impossible.

“Mom, do you see how cute Echo is?”

Apparently my kids love me so much that they want to give me updates on their lives every 4 minutes… or ask for more snacks every 10. I told them if they see me at my computer, it means I’m working and they can put a note on my desk. They get to tell me or ask me what they need and my flow doesn’t get interrupted. (I’m not saying I have ADHD but it runs deep in my family.)

Being that she just started first grade and doesn’t have all of her words down pat yet, Yara decided to write the first letter of each word of whatever she wants to tell me. Which means I still have to stop what I’m doing to ask her what it says.😆

Somewhere during middle school kids start living their own lives and we stop being the center of their world. I’m here, reporting from the other side, to say that if you play your cards right, they’ll come back and start inviting you in. It is in fact possible to have your teenage son want to talk to you about his girlfriend, to want to bring her along on every family outing. And it’s pretty dang cool when it happens. I like to think of it as my first major performance review as a parent (I’m getting a raise).

Last week of summer break looking something like this around our house. I will say though, we had a very chill and satisfying summer. Lots of beach days, lots of iced lattes, lots of time with Dad, lots of new tattoos. I’ve been doing a lot of behind-the-scenes work on my business too (I paid for help!
