Summer sessions have a feeling all their own.

There is something about warm air and open space that makes families exhale. Nobody is worried about staying still or looking perfect. The kids take off running the second we get to the location, dad is actually smiling, and mom finally lets herself be in a photo without overthinking it. That is exactly when I do my best work.

Outdoor sessions in June have some of the most beautiful light of the entire year and I still have spots available this summer.

The location is never just a backdrop.

When I photograph families at the beach, the water becomes part of their story. The way the light falls at the end of the day, the sound of the waves that nobody can actually hear in the photos but somehow you can feel, the kids running toward the water the second you put the camera down. It all shows up in the images whether we plan for it or not.

That is what I love most about beach sessions. The place does half the work, and the family does the rest.

This kind of message never gets old.

This family has trusted me with some of their biggest moments. Senior photos, beach sessions, family milestones. Every time they come back, I am reminded of exactly why I do this work. They recently shared this and I could not keep it to myself.

Patient is my favorite word in that sentence. Because I know how real the chaos is, and I am never in a rush to get past it. The messy, wiggly, unpredictable moments are usually the ones worth keeping.

Your photos are only as lasting as where they live.

Most families walk away from a session with a beautiful online gallery. And those images are wonderful, until the link expires, the hard drive fails, or they just get buried in a camera roll somewhere between a grocery list screenshot and a blurry video of the dog.

Some families just make my job feel easy.

This family showed up to the beach completely unbothered. No rushing, no stressing over whether the kids were cooperating, no worrying about how they looked. They just showed up and let the morning light do its thing. When a family is that relaxed, the camera catches everything. The real laughs, the easy touches, the way they just are with each other. That is when the best images happen. Not when everything is perfect, but when nobody is trying to make it perfect.

Life lately, April

I almost didn’t post my monthly life update for April. It is already May but I figure late is better than not at all. April was BUSY beyond belief.

Weekly allergy appointments.
Hitting practice,
Baseball Practice.
Baseball Tournaments.
Dealing with health insurance issues.
Lasik getting redone.
Several photography sessions throughout the month (Busiest April to date!)

Life is busy but life is so full of happy memories at the same time.

They are never this little again. Not even tomorrow.

I say that a lot, but I mean it every single time. I have been photographing families long enough to watch kids go from wobbly on their feet to too cool to hold mom’s hand, and it happens so fast it will take your breath away. What feels like an ordinary Tuesday afternoon right now is exactly what you will be searching for in ten years.

That is why I do this. Not just to make pretty pictures, but to freeze the version of your family that only exists right now.

These images are the ones your kids will show their own kids someday.
