To be perfectly honest I was on my way to the store when I looked to my right and saw the possible potential of the cloud reflection in the water from the brief downpour before I took it. I really like the symmetry of the shot and also that I was able to capture it before the two women sunbathing noticed I had. I’m thinking telling them that I was actually a photographer might have sounded a little too much like a cheesy line to be believed.

Where else but Key West, FL are you going to run into your Irish friend Niall of 25 years, dressed as an amazing version of Elton John, posing against the backdrop of a mural entitled “Wilhelmina Crossing the 7 Mile Bridge” painted on the outside of a legendary local drinking establishment called Bobby’s Monkey Bar? That picture takes itself. I’m just glad I was one who was taking it.

The thought I always have whenever I ride by Mangia Mangia is Spinach Fettuccine Alfredo and Bruschetta. It’s what I’ve been ordering every single time I go there since 1997. Although I wasn’t stopping to dine on this night, I did stop and capture this image when I saw how the full moon was lighting up the palm trees. Magnifico.

I’ve been asked a lot why I’m so intrigued by clouds in my photography. And the simple answer is because they are always changing and an image I capture from the same spot can be different every day or even every hour. Like this one I caught randomly walking through the cemetery on my way home one afternoon.

I have a handful of images that I put on my list of one’s I feel I definitely earned. This being one of them as I was on the opposite south side of the island waiting on the sunrise when I saw this Cruise Ship entering the channel. It must have looked like I was being chased as I raced to the Waterfront and was just able to catch her as she was preparing to pull forward and throw her lines. I’m glad I did make it because the whole ride over I thought how I really wanted to get that mornings clouds above her in the photo.

I don’t blame you if you don’t instantly recognize what this is but I’ll always remember it as the afternoon I tried out my 10x telephoto lens for the first time and captured this waterspout in the middle of a storm over a mile away offshore. Those barely perceptible lines at the bottom are channel markers and although the skies around it were clear and sunny this particular patch of ocean looked like armageddon was about to strike and made me glad I was standing on land while I was taking it.

I gave up a long time ago trying to chase and take those incredible full moon shots that everybody else seems to be able to capture and then post to my envy no matter how many times I try or what lens I use. But when the clouds roll in and I can capture some of its light reflecting in them while I happen to be taking early morning pictures at the Harbor I’m not nearly as jealous. Take lot of pictures people.

I remember this morning because it had just stopped raining long enough that I wouldn’t be able to use it as a justifiable excuse for my laziness if I didn’t leave the house and go and try to capture some images. Looking back I’m glad that it had, because although it’s a pretty common shot I really like how this version turned out with the puddle reflection.

Although I’d love to say I remember every single photograph I’ve ever taken and recall all of its details, which of course I can once I see it again, but with over 27,000 pictures in my library, a few slip through the cracks every once in a while. Like this one I found from back in March that pleasantly surprised me as I was looking for a completely different one. Take lots of pictures people.

I’m not sure if I’m more amazed at how this picture came out or that I was lucky enough to be there when both directions of traffic had a red light and I was able to take it in the middle of the weirdly empty street on a very busy Sunday afternoon. I’m going with a tie. Takes lots of pictures people.
