I’m not sure if I’m more amazed at how this picture came out or that I was lucky enough to be there when both directions of traffic had a red light and I was able to take it in the middle of the weirdly empty street on a very busy Sunday afternoon. I’m going with a tie. Takes lots of pictures people.

For as long as I’ve lived on our beautiful little island down here at the end of the road and for as many times as I’ve taken pictures from the same places, I’m always fascinated how each one turns out so completely different. I especially like how today’s did. Takes lots of pictures people, especially on the days when the clouds are looking amazing.

If I only had a dollar for all the times I left my house in the early morning hours searching for memorable images of our beautiful little island only to realize after a frustrating hour or so that the dozens I’d taken were anything but and it was just time to go get my double buchi at 5Bros and try again another day. Only to then be on my way there and capture the shot I’d been waiting for all along. Like this one of the old Strand Theater, now Walgreens, that I captured doing exactly that. Take lots of pictures people.

People travel from all over the world to Key West and more specifically Duval Street with it’s countless restaurants, shops and disproportionate amount of bars for a 14 block stretch of real estate. Most are also looking for that one story they’ll tell for the rest of their lives about the exciting time they had one night while being on it. I’ve always wondered if those same people realized that sometimes the most excitement is actually going on right above their heads if they would just look up and notice. Like I did on this day when I captured this image right before the clouds moved on.

The Spanish phrase “No podría estar más orgulloso” and yes, this gr**go photographer had to look it up, translates to “I couldn’t be prouder”. And that is exactly how I feel as I am both excited and proud to announce that I now have postcards for sale at 5 Brothers. The image of the iconic establishment in all of her glory is not only one of my most popular but also a personal favorite as I will never be able to say enough wonderful things about the place. From Pepe and Mirabel being the first on the island to display one of my images 3 years ago to their amazingly talented daughter Francheska who has since taken over and done wonderful things, my thanks will always be there to all of them. So the next time you’re needing some incredible Cuban coffee and amazing food be sure to stop in, not only will they have it waiting for you but now you can also take home a postcard with a picture of them too.

I can’t remember the last time, if ever, that I looked up after some amazing clouds caught my eye, captured an image of them and then posted it just a few hours later. Which is exactly what I did today as I was able to take this picture off The Sunset Tiki Bar dock after chasing them for the previous 45 minutes on the north side of the island. And if I didn’t know better it looks as if the wave-runners had been waiting for me to finally get there the whole time. I wish it could always be this easy.

I’ll never know what book this guy was reading but it couldn’t have possibly been more entertaining than the incredible story being told by Mother Nature in the sky right above him with her awesome display of clouds. I can only hope he looked up long enough between chapters and realized the same.

When you’re riding down the street and see 4 story tall palm tree shadows being cast on the side of a block long building like a tropical billboard you jump off your scooter and take as many pictures as you possibly can before the sun rises any higher and the shot fades away forever. Which I did, 36 to be exact, and chose this one as my favorite out of all of them. I entitled it “Taking a Moment to Reflect” and it’s available on my website and I think the perfect awesome example of things that can only happen on Key West.

After a little bit of a late start because of the rain shower but still pleased with the early morning images I had captured, I decided it was finally time to go grab my buchi. And coming down White St. on my way there is when I looked up and saw these amazing clouds that made me not be able to park my scooter fast enough, or be more thankful for no traffic this early, and started snapping away. After seeing how they turned out I’m really glad that I did. Take lots of pictures people and have an awesome Sunday Funday!

So when you get an invite for the Southard Stroll happening this Saturday from everybody’s favorite boutique proprietor and overall awesome human Sue yesterday and you didn’t capture any images this morning that you’re even remotely happy with, you of course post the one of Soul House that you remembered you took last week as a thank you. And I also really like how the image turned out showing both of the streets.
