Don’t forget everybody I’ll be on my fourth book tour in Key West starting on the 12 of November, i’ll be at The Half Shell Raw Bar, Hogfish Grill, Captain Tony’s Saloon Harpoon Harry’s and as you could see, I’ll be at White Street here at sunrise pretty much every morning with my dad. You know Captain Tony‘s oldest 90-years old he’s a little angry these days because he faced reality that he has a 70-year-old son that’s me Keith West
you’ll catch me every morning here photographing the famous sunrise speaking of my book an sunrises. I was covering sunrises way back as far as 1977 from this exact spot, you’ll see some of those images in my book “Key West the way it was” if you’re not gonna be in Key West or you wanna know where to pick one up just send me a text. Video by Keith West Terracina, I took this video about seven years ago at the end of White Street pier in Key West, way back in the mid 70s every morning. I would go to sunrise after closing Captain Tony’s Saloon at four in the morning of course we would all go partying somewhere either at a house party sailboat party or some smuggling speedboat party. If you were in a bar of business in Key West back 70s your party life began at four in the morning, no matter where I was, I would make sure I was at White Street pier I have forwarded before the sun came up. The funny thing is there was never anybody there with the camera ever in fact back 45 years ago, there was nobody even there maybe one person walking a dog and two people fishing such a beautiful pier such an incredible sunrise, but nobody went there. That’s why I ended up publishing all those posters and postcards from there anyway. Lisa and I were partying in Key West like the good old days and we went to sunrise and I don’t know where it comes. This guy. I thought I was in a Jetsons cartoon he found a fishing pole. I even asked him as he flew by this is an incredible Key West frozen moment big time.

Happy Halloween night, I post this poster every once in a while there’s over 100 characters of the people who worked an hung out in downtown Key West back in the 70s, Bob Kennedy from Kennedy Studios and galleries
came up with an idea to run around with a Polaroid camera and capture the actual characters of downtown Key West. We both ran around with a Polaroid camera and photographed those people here they are, you could see me on the far right sixth person down. I just got back from swimming at the end of Simonton street pier with My hair wet 47 years ago I have been talking to Bob about re-printing this poster or trying to find the original template. All these people were historic Key West characters big time.

First of all, happy Halloween, I want to
apologize for all you comic book lovers of Batman and Robin., I took this photo of this gentleman in Key West probably about 47 years ago at the famous Monster nightclub, that’s where the Hog’s Breath bar is now, Way back in the mid 70s. It was called the Monster the number one gay club in Key West s*x or**es, hot tubs. Incredible drinks amazing sound system and DJ, that was right around the corner from my grandfather‘s bar Captain Tony’s Saloon, when I met girl tourist
who liked to dance I brought them there they had the best DJ and Sound system on the island. They had some pretty wild hot tubs going on there, eventually they got shut down for that, anyway I knew the owner very well Seth I remember when a crazy tourist shot him in the head after we all had arguments with that guy, let’s just say I got some stories and no, I’m not gay but my great uncle Salvador picked up a lot of boyfriends from there pretty much 50 years ago

Photo taken by my mom Carol Terracina Key West, Florida 1967, more than 10 years before Fantasy Fest was even thought about, that’s my dad Louis on the right you’ll still see him running around Key West at the age of 90 these days, the guy in the middle just one of those mob guys from New Jersey on vacation Aldo Santillo. I can’t talk about the guy on the left. I know his grandchildren they might put a hit out on me. This is definitely Key West the way it was.

Yes, I know I posted this photo last Saturday, but it is one of my favorite Fantasy Fest photos. That’s my grandfather Captain Tony with the blowup doll around his shoulders. Imagine he was the mayor of party town USA Key West back in 1991 i’ll tell you one thing like I tell everyone this week there was some wild times going on before fantasy fest was even thought about back in the mid 70s. We all put on some pretty wild costume and wore some wild masks. I just loved the way Key West has developed into a major celebration for the week of Halloween. Damn these Gummies are wicked.

Just some things I heard by Keith Anthony Terracina, You heard so many stories and saw so many images of one of the most wildest Key West characters who was reading minds, taking photos and making masks above the original Hemingway bar, Captain Tony’s Saloon way back over 60 years ago, Anyway listen, don’t stare too long into his eyes, he knows about all those people that were in that original city morgue back in the 1800s. He also connected with all the people that were hung from the famous hanging tree. I heard some stories, I actually walked through the doors of that bar back in 1969. I was only 13 but I knew something was going on. Maybe it was the screaming monkeys surrounding that hanging tree that Tennessee Williams gave my grandfather in that giant cage, or the giant sharks hanging from the rafters in the pool room, I did feel a special vibe from the bongo players during the day banging away and singing, when I finally got to move to Key West and started working at the bar in 1976 it all came clear .
