$1,491.60 : The average cost for a single vial of insulin is $372.90. It is a medicine that can be produced for just a few dollars. These 4 empty vials represent the amount of insulin I require each month for survival.

Insulin was discovered by Sir Fredrick G Banting, Charles H Best and JJR Macleod at the University of Toronto in 1921. They all sold their patents on insulin to the University of Toronto for $1 each. Banting said, "Insulin does not belong to me, it belongs to the world." He wanted everyone who needed it to have access to it.
