There is something so special about capturing the moments before a child takes an important step in their journey of faith. 🤍

🤍 Today I was the photographer… but Eli gave me the lesson.

Today I had the privilege of taking Eli’s baptism pictures at the Ogden Utah Temple. He was being an amazing little model, and as his photographer, I was focused on the light, his smile, and finding the perfect places for his pictures.

As we were walking to our next spot, Eli suddenly stopped. He had noticed a tiny red bottle cap on the ground.

He asked me, “Can we please stop? I want to pick up this garbage because it cannot be here.”

Of course I said yes. There wasn’t a garbage can nearby, so I wondered what he would do with it.

Then he said, “I’ll put it in my pocket and throw it away later.” 🥹

That simple moment almost made me cry.

Without even realizing it, this little boy preparing for his baptism reminded me that the temple is a sacred place—the House of the Lord—and sacred things deserve our love, respect, and care.

📖 “The Lord cannot dwell in unholy temples.” — Alma 7:21

That tiny piece of garbage mattered to Eli because, in his heart, he knew it didn’t belong on the temple grounds. And he didn’t just move it somewhere else—he carried it with him until he could put it where it belonged.

Today I went there to capture memories for Eli with my camera, but Eli gave me a memory that I captured in my heart. 🤍

Congratulations on your baptism, Eli. Never lose that beautiful and thoughtful heart. 🕊️
