Layman Wedding Day, Part 1 šŸ•ÆļøšŸ„€āœØ

Ethan and Geysel started their wedding day in the heart of downtown Knoxville, getting ready at the Hyatt Place.

They brought along a few special details for their flat lays, including this red velvet background that photographed so beautifully!

We made our way to the rooftop for their first touch, first look, and private vows. It was such a sweet, intimate moment for the two of them to slow down and soak everything in before celebrating with family and friends.

On our way out, we made a quick stop at the iconic Tennessee Theatre sign. If you’re dressed for your wedding in downtown Knoxville, you can’t *not* grab a picture here!

The group traveled to Ethan’s hometown church tucked away in the Tennessee countryside for the ceremony. The rice toss exit is easily one of my favorite shots from the day!

Stay tuned for part two, I don’t think you’re ready for these reception photos! šŸŖ©šŸ’ƒšŸ•šŸ¾

The episode where bestie got ENGAGED 🄹

It was so special getting to document such a sweet moment between Hannah and Eric. Eric did so much planing leading up to the big day to make the proposal as thought out and perfect as possible.

For the location, we settled on the beautiful and peaceful Sequoyah Park, which runs right next to the Tennessee River in Knoxville, just a few miles from downtown.

Eric and I scoped out the perfect spot in the park about a week out from the proposal. There’s so many good little locations in this park, but he ended up settling on right in front of this majestic maple tree.

Hannah said YES! And we took 20 or so minutes to take some gorgeous golden hour portraits after they’d had a moment to celebrate between themselves.

Couldn’t be more excited for these two, or stoked to photograph their intimate wedding come August šŸ’āœØ

From inquiry all the way to final gallery delivery, I strive to support my couples every step of the way! Seeing these Google reviews makes it ALL worth it because…

1: On top of creating beautiful photos for them to treasure for a lifetime, I successfully turned my couple’s wedding or elopement day into an experience they genuinely enjoyed and felt supported through!

2: Google reviews show potential new clients that I am a trustworthy vendor who goes above and beyond for her couples! They can book with me with confidence.

If I had to give one piece of advice to engaged couples looking for wedding or elopement vendors, it would be to read your potential vendor’s Google reviews.

Trusting someone with photographing your most important day is a big decision! In the age of AI and social media where almost anything can be fabricated or faked, reading real from a photographers past clients is imperative.

These are a handful of the kindest reviews people have my business. They literally put a huge smile on my face, and give me such a feeling of fulfillment. Like I did my job right.

Today, we are wishing a very happy birthday to our CEO, Event Planner, Accountant, Director of Marketing, and Head Photographer… me 🄰

Every year, I learn more about all the hats entrepreneurs balance. Every year, I get a little better at balancing it all. Despite all of the hard work, seen and unseen by all of you, this business is truly a gift that I treasure every day.

If you’ve ever read The Giver, I’d like to compare photography to the main character’s job in the book. Jonas is assigned the role ā€œReceiver of Memory.ā€ His job is to receive and store all past memories, both happy and painful, of the past. In the end (spoiler alert) he chooses to share these memories which were previously withheld from his community, bringing back important emotions and knowledge to his people.

For a long time, I strived to compete with the perfect aesthetics that rule our social media feeds, and attempted to keep up with the speed of the AI that’s changing what this industry looks like. It felt exhausting until one day, I realized out-running all of it is just an illusion. It’s impossible to stay on top of it all.

The message I want to send out on my birthday this year is that for me, it’s not about being the most popular on social media or staying on top of every trend! For me, it’s about remembering the core of photography itself with every booking I choose to take on. I am the Receiver of Memory, and it is a sacred thing to share and hold close the memories of the people in my community.

I’ve known that since high school, where the beginning of my photo journey was taking photos at football games. I documented practically every game unpaid, but that wasn’t even something that crossed my mind. I got such a thrill out of sharing pictures with the players and their families. To this day, people in my hometown approach me and thank me for capturing those photos from all of those years ago.

Eventually, a photographer’s name will be forgotten to time, but those precious photos will be passed down and cherished by my community for generations.

Thank you for entrusting me with this job. It’s the best gift I could ask for on my birthday!

Cheers,
Katie Mae šŸ„‚šŸ§āœØ
