There’s 42 billion posts going around about showing the faces of children because of AI and a recent judgement that was made in the courts

And I keep getting asked about it
(Ok, I’ve been asked twice 🤣 but that’s more than onceeee)

I’ve always left it up to the families whether or not to post their kiddos. And I still will.

And if families decide they want photos to post that don’t show faces, that’s possible too.

I will always respect your choice ❤️
Unless that choice is to wear matching buffalo plaid.

OMGERD
Today is National Orange Cat Day!

I have the most gorgeous and chaotic orange cat ever.
He stole my heart and most of my wallet (dude LOVESSSS the ER vet 🤣)
He was never really little but now he is almost 16lbs

3 years ago today, I lost my brother to su***de.

Even typing those words still knocks the breath out of my chest.

I’ve never been shy about sharing about my life.
It’s not ordinary. And I know that others can pull from it.
My brother and I spent a large majority of my childhood between foster care and living with abuse/extreme neglect.
Very traumatic, long story short- I raised my brother. Until we were adopted and even then, we kinda co-parented 🤣

So losing him felt like losing a child. I used to always joke that he was my practice kid.
Losing him burnt my soul in a way I can never explain. There will always be “before Mikey died” and “after Mikey died”.
Not just because he is gone, but because of the way it happened. We also lost our dad to su***de a few years before.

Help for mental illnesses is lacking.
Especially for men.

I talk about it because mental illness isn’t something to be ashamed of.
And I have made it a life goal to always slow down when someone I know reaches out for a branch to hold onto.
I truly believe that I would rather sit with you in your chaos, in your darkness, while your brain lies to you than have to sit at your funeral.

I share all of this because
1) I love talking about my brother. I didn’t for a long time after he died.
The words would just get swallowed in my tears.
But now, I can. The tears still come often but I just talk through them and hope whoever is listening is good at guessing what I say 🤣
2)Mental illness isn’t something to be ashamed of. There is help. Sometimes it’s just hard to find it.
3) take the f****** pictures. Be in the pictures, take the pictures, print the pictures, save the pictures.
4)please stay. The world is ugly sometimes. But it really is so much better with you here.

I’m so grateful now that I take so many photos all the time.
Because that’s all I have now. That and a million memories ❤️

If money is preventing you from booking, payment plans are available for this and I also take Klarna.
I have not so little kiddos that come back for sessions year later, and they still mention being a princess

Busy season is here!
I do limit my busy season because I don't love being so booked that I don't know what day it is (I've done that for many years)
AND because I want to be out in the pumpkin fields and frolicking in the apple orchards while drinking my Dunkin and not holding my camera

I can smell autumn in the air.
It’s happening

I just wanted to touch base a couple policies and tips I have as we head into busy season

❤️my turn around time is on average 2-4 weeks
Closer to 4 when it’s crazy busy. And a max of 6 weeks per my contract. The 6 weeks is for emergencies.
It’s almost always 2 weeks. But I am a mom with pets. And my pets love to try to die.

I typically do a pretty job of not overbooking myself so I’m not usually crazy busy.

It’s usually much faster. I have hired a sitter an extra day this year so I am super prepared and can edit even faster.
But I am not the fastest. I don’t want to be, I like to make sure the photos you get back are perfect.
Please don’t send me messages 37 seconds after your session asking for an update- I’ll cry 🤣
I do offer rush editing but there is a fee for that.
If you know you’ll need your photos back by a certain time, please take that into consideration when booking.

❤️I do have a pretty strict late policy. If you show up late without contacting me, your session may be cancelled.

❤️No meanies. If you’re mean to me, any of my assistants, venues I work with, or are cruel to your kids- girrrl, I’m gonna cancel that session.
❤️❤️to piggy back on that: I am never ever ever a safe place for racist/homophobic/anti human comments.
I’ll just pick up my stuff and leave. It’ll be weird for all of us because I think I’ll just yell “SESSION OVER” (jk, I won’t but it will be over. That’s weird)

❤️I can’t guarantee your kids will cooperate. I will try my hardest. And I can usually get smiles,
But ultimately, they are tiny humans with their own agendas and sometimes, they cry or don’t cooperate.
If you think it may be harder to get them to want to play along, please book a session that is longer than a mini.

❤️I can’t guarantee I can post sneak peeks of your session. I do love having permission to share your photos and use them on my website, etc- but that’s not required. If you don’t want them shared, I will never share them.

❤️download your photos. I can’t keep them forever. It’s expensive to store them. Please download them. I do a purge around this time every year.

❤️I reschedule for bad weather. I can’t edit sweat or you being drenched from rain

❤️wear clothes you are comfortable in. That is so important. Don’t assume things can be edited.
If you don’t normally do a spray tan, don’t do it before a session. Dont try a brand new makeup routine right before your session.
And hair cuts are best a few days before. If it has to be the same day, that’s ok too

❤️If you feel like you’re going to be awkward at a session, that’s ok. I am an awkward person. 🤣🤣
If you’re willing to try, I can pose and prompt you

❤️Have toddlers or small kids? Talk to them about how excited you are to have photos done with Ms Beth/ Beth. If you talk to them about it often the week before the session, they will be excited to see me too. It really does help with comfort

I’ve been a photographer for over 15 years now and these are just some things I’ve noticed or wanted to touch on.

And I just want to remind you that I would rather sit with you in your mental illness
Then mourn you in your absence

Don’t ever be embarrassed if you need someone to talk to at your session. Newborn sessions are long anyway.

You’re not alone. Your brain is just misfiring.
And you need help
