I recently received a comment on my coaching page that rubbed me the wrong way and I want to unpack it with you.

I was talking about how there are two main business structures within photography. One that (to me) feels impersonal. Basically all communication is done over email or messenger, you don’t get to meet your photographer or have a consult beforehand, hair and makeup is on you to figure out, you show up, the photographer takes pictures, and in a couple weeks an email arrives in your inbox with your images. Simple streamlined- works for a lot of people and they’re happy with it. There is nothing inherently wrong with this business model, it’s just not for me.

On the other hand, there is a boutique experience that a lot of people enjoy. I was sharing about why I love offering a full service experience and what it has done for my business. Being able to meet you-my client- before you ever step foot in front of my camera, giving you guidance, brainstorming, sometimes even going shopping together- truly getting to know you and what is important to you. Then providing hair and makeup so it’s one less worry, one less piece of work for you on your already full plate. Our sessions are relaxed, I know what music you like, favorite snacks- and then when it’s time to select your photos, I know your session goals, where these photos are going whether it’s in your walls, in an album or on a billboard and this allows me to help you choose photos based on my 11 years of expertise.

These are the things that I shared and I received the comment that doing this ā€œliterally sucks my soulā€ and the follow up to when I shared why I loved it and that I like spending time with my clients and getting to know them ā€œyeah that’s why I can’t stand itā€ while I know a more in depth process isn’t for everyone I stopped for a second because why would you get into portrait photography if you don’t like people? If you don’t like your clients, why be a people photographer? There are countless avenues for creative expression. Why work with people who are trusting you to be safe and supported if you are counting down the minutes until you can get away from th

This is our second shoot with local author Ki Stephens most famous for her Coastal University series, is dropping something a little different this spring and I cannot wait to get ahold of it.

I just picked up her 2025 book Blue Willow, and if it’s anything like her prior work I already know I’m going to love it. Ki was so great to work with, I highly suggest snagging one of her books and getting a peek into her mind.

I took this week off not knowing how our Hayden would recover from adenoid surgery and now I don’t quite know what to do with myself. Spoiler alert- she’s doing great, her and Kali crushed 2 boxes of outshine bars and a bag of trufru the last 3 days. She definitely milked me for every frozen treat she could think of. Thank goodness for Sam’s Club sized bags of trü frü because we would not have made it.

That all being said, the downtime is unfamiliar and I have time to focus a bit more on social media and admin tasks this week. In the past 10 ish years I’ve had the pleasure of serving almost 700 clients and their families. That’s a lot. But in comparison, I have so few reviews on my facebook and Google page. If I’ve had the pleasure of working with you and you haven’t already, would you mind leaving me a review on my Google Maps page? It would be such a gift if you could spend 2 minutes to share your experience.

šŸ“Google reviews do one of 2 things:
1. Boosts rankings and helps me get to the top of Google Maps when potential clients search for photographers.
2. Instills social proof. If you are one of my students, you already know this but social proof is a HUGE part of the psychology of being chosen. When choosing a service or restaurant, are you going to pick the place with 100+ 4 and 5 star reviews or the place with a handful of reviews?

I would love to work with more people just like you. The best way you can help me is if you can carve out a couple minutes and share your thoughts with us. There is a link in our bio to our Google Maps page if you’d like to help out ā¤ļø

I just can’t stop sharing these photos from Home With The Harvey’s. For this session we did multiple looks for both Danielle and Rhawn. Each outfit and micro location within their home tells a different story, invokes a different feeling. When shooting a brand whether it be a soloprenuer, a team, or a product, I always look to see how we can photograph the different faucets of a person or brand’s identity. We’re all professionals but at the end of the day, we’re people. People with families, relationships, hobbies and interests. What we choose to share with the world becomes our brand- intentional or otherwise.

My goal as your brand photographer is to dig into these different aspects and bring them to the front of mind for the viewer. This allows connection, builds brand trust, and subliminally establishes an archetype which reinforces brand-self connection. When clients see themselves in you, they purchase from you. That doesn’t happen on accident. That happens when your photographer knows that a strong branding session starts before you ever step in front of the camera.

If you’re ready for intentional storytelling, brand refinement, and imagery that feels like you…reach out. I’d love to chat.

I told you this photo was going to be a favorite šŸ¤ŒšŸ¼
I met Danielle Harvey from Home With The Harveys at The Camp LeJune Leadership Seminar this past spring. We didn’t get to chat as much as I would have liked but a couple months later her assistant reached out for a branding shoot. To be honest, I didn’t put the pieces together right away. It’s not uncommon for me to not get to talk to someone until their session consult when their team is handling the details. I was just happy to have new people to meet and a new brand to dig into.

A week before the Harvey’s consult I was doing my homework (AKA snooping šŸ˜‚) and I realized it was none other than Danielle Harvey from seminar. To say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement. Fast forward, we shot the session in their beautiful new home and I got to know Danielle and her husband Rhawn Harvey better in the process. They are wonderful, down to earth couple with a real passion for helping future home owners. By the end of the shoot, I felt like I was photographing good friends. We got some great shots, their branding photos are polished yet personal, and we walked away with future play date plans for our kids.

Photography is a business but it’s more than just a transactional service. Caring about our clients, getting to know and refer them, watching their businesses grow and change over the years is always a rewarding experience. I’m always thankful for the people and teams that find our studio and end up becoming longtime clients and friends.
