I hope everyone is doing ok during this difficult time in North Carolina and South Carolina with the aftermath from Hurricane Florence. I pray that everyone is safe. I made the decision to evacuate my family for a number of reasons. Being from this amazing town of Jacksonville, NC I’ve been through a lot of hurricanes and never once was scared to ride it out. When Florence was headed for us as a cat 4 possible cat 5, I couldn’t risk my children’s life or myself because they are little and still need parents. So I packed up our irreplaceable things, some clothes, the dog and we headed North. My best friend and I convoyed with 8 kids in tow. Drove all night and we finally made it to our destination. We are so thankful for the family that took us in the past week and a half. We have made the best of the situation and kept the kids as busy as we could. We have consistently have been so worried about things going on back home. Checking Facebook updates from friends and family that stayed behind. Our little city became an island like Wilmington, NC did. There was no way in or no way out. Our town was running out of food, water, gas. People were having to be rescued via helicopter. Limited supplies were being brought in via helicopter as well. We are slowly now starting to receive power back for ENC. Things are slowing trying to get back to a somewhat normal for people. It’s going to take a long time before they are fully back because the devastation is unbelievable. So many people have lost everything they have worked so hard for. We need Continued prayers. As my family makes our journey Back to our little home town, please send prayers for a safe return.
