short story.

Last year I saw this guy at Publix, he was interesting to me, had cool style & decided to approach him to see if he wanted to shoot sometime (gave his my business card).

Over the next couple of weeks, we kept running into each other. Turns out, we were neighbors (homies as they say).

Being in the creative industry I’ve been able to connect & relate with on various aspects. It’s not the easiest career, but when there’s passion for it, you continue to pursue it.

A couple weeks ago, I heard a lot of sirens, headed outside to see 6+ fire trucks on our street. I walked around the corner to see what was going on & it was my friend, Sheldon’s apartment on fire. They busted windows to get in, worked on extinguishing the fire asap. (big props to JFRD 👏🏼)

The worst area was his kitchen but parts of his ceiling were ripped open to make sure the flames didn’t move into the attic. All his stuff was engulfed in soot. A lot of stuff had to be trashed; I went in the next day and it was really bad.

Long story short, I’m glad no one was hurt, the material things can be replaced. I can relate to that as I lost the majority of my home during Hurricane Irma.

Photographs help tell a story, so I was glad I could help him with my gift.

He is looking to get into a new place, replace some of the important goods he lost & get back on his feet.

If you’d like to help by donating $5 or $50, I’m sure he would be extremely grateful for any amount donated.

At the end of the day, we have to have each other’s backs & give back to a world that leaves us with less. It’s the people & moments that bring joy into our lives; for that I’m thankful.

*I will leave his gofundme link in my stories & you can also go visit his page for other ways to help.

I blinked and you graduated high school.

If there was a way that I could press rewind and watch you grow up all over again, I would.

You are my heart.
You are my soul.
You are my spirit.

And I couldn’t be more proud of you, that title I keep close to my heart, “mom”.

Enjoy your youth, your freedom. Explore & do all the things. Always be kind to people. The material stuff doesn’t matter, but the people you surround yourself with does. Choose your tribe wisely & most of all, have fun.

Happy Graduation, Asher!!!

*happy tears 😭♥️

Thinking of creating a still life (film only) account, I always love mixing them in but wouldn’t want my commercial clients getting confused.

Whether it’s trying to make friends with a crow, or digging in the dirt, all of nature brings me joy.

Thankful for its beauty & constant joy.

For as long as I can remember, I always brought a camera with me. To school. To the beach. To night at the band room. Just everywhere.

I’m not sure of the psychology behind that, but I think it had alot to do with not wanting to forget (friends, places, moments).

Fast forward to now & I have tons of shoe boxes in my closet filled with 4x6 prints from my youth.

(one of these days I need to scan some in & share)
_______________

Early this year I decided to bring that (film) back. Bring back the slow down. The craft of not shooting a hundred + photographs (digital makes that so easy). The slowing down of time. The happy mistakes of film (you never know!!). The grain!!! No matter how hard people try to mimic film grain with digital, it always fails. The patience of waiting for your film to be developed & the happiness of “your scans are ready” day. And the most important, the NOSTALGIA.

_______________

Here are a few recent lifestyle photographs I took of Haley w/ Hakimian Home • I first photographed her back in 2021 & I’ve come love her vibe (when you know, you know; good people). I appreciate her effortless style, with classics being very near her heart (nourishing, loving, real).
