I believe that wandering is a part of the destination because without it we would miss out on some of the most beautiful things in the world. Chittenango Falls has to be one of the most beautiful waterfalls I’ve ever seen!

Located in Central New York, Chittenango Falls State Park is home to a beautiful 167-foot waterfall where Chittenango Creek flows through a wooded gorge over rock shaped by glaciers thousands of years ago.

There are trails throughout the park that give you several different views of the falls and the surrounding gorge. It’s one of those places where the waterfall, forest, and rocky landscape all come together so beautifully.

And a fun little fact — the park is also home to the Chittenango ovate amber snail, a tiny snail that is found nowhere else in the world!

I’ve seen quite a few waterfalls in my travels, and Chittenango Falls is definitely one I won’t forget.

I finally made it back to Triple Falls, and I forgot just how loud this place is up close.

Three tiers of water just crashing over these massive granite ledges — the mist gets you from about 50 feet away. If you've never made the hike out to DuPont State Forest near Brevard, put it on the list.

Fun fact for anyone who didn't know: this exact waterfall shows up in The Hunger Games and The Last of the Mohicans. Kind of wild to stand there in person and recognize it from the movies.

“Alpenglow on the Tetons”

There's a brief window each evening when the Tetons put on their best show — warm light climbing the jagged, snow-streaked peaks until the granite spires seem to glow from within, set against a deep blue, storm-hazed sky. Below, the foothills and valley have already slipped into shadow, and that contrast between illuminated stone and cool twilight blue is what makes this moment so striking.

Lately I’ve been having fun playing around with multiple exposures. It’s a different way of looking at the world, and I’m enjoying seeing what I can create.

I almost didn't get this shot.

I'd been watching the sky over Sedona all afternoon, and just as I was about to call it, the storm clouds started breaking apart right over Cathedral Rock. That warm light broke through for maybe a few minutes, and mist was still rising up out of the canyon from the earlier rain. I grabbed my camera and just started shooting before the moment passed.

If you've never been, Cathedral Rock is one of the most recognizable formations in Sedona — those distinctive spires rising nearly 1,500 feet above the valley floor are made of red Schnebly Hill sandstone, laid down millions of years ago and slowly carved by wind and water into the shape we see today. It's also one of Sedona's famous "vortex" sites and there's no denying that the place has a certain pull to it. You feel it standing there.

Watching those storm clouds race across the sky while the rock just sat there, steady and unbothered, felt like a small reminder to slow down a little. I've photographed Cathedral Rock before, but this one's become one of my favorites. There's something about the mist, the light, and that moody sky all lining up at once that is just magical.

There are some places that never lose their magic for me, and Sedona is one of them.

Every time I visit, I end up wandering down roads I've never driven, pulling over whenever something catches my eye, and just exploring to see what I might discover. That's one of the things I love most about Sedona—you never know what view is waiting around the next bend.

On this day, after a morning of exploring, I found myself looking at Courthouse Butte under one of the most incredible skies. The clouds seemed to dance across the red rock, adding so much drama and depth to an already beautiful landscape. It was one of those moments that made me stop, take it all in, and appreciate why I keep coming back.

There's something about the Sedona Red Rocks that sparks my creativity. Maybe it's the colors, the light, or just the feeling of being surrounded by such incredible landscapes. Whatever it is, every visit inspires me to slow down, explore a little farther, and see the area with fresh eyes.

There are mornings when the alarm goes off way too early, and you seriously question why you ever thought it was a good idea. This was one of those mornings!

I crawled out of my camper in the dark, grabbed my camera, and drove to a nearby overlook along the Blue Ridge Parkway. It was quiet, and I honestly had no idea what kind of sunrise I was going to get. Sometimes it's spectacular. Sometimes...not so much. That's part of the adventure.

As the sky started to brighten, I looked out over the valley and just stood there.

The entire valley had filled with fog overnight. It wasn't just a little mist—it looked like waves rolling through the mountains. Then the sun began to peek over the distant ridges, and suddenly everything was glowing. The mountains stretched on forever, the fog caught the morning light, and for a few minutes it felt like the whole world had slowed down.

Those are the moments I chase.

This image is a reminder of that quiet moment—the stillness, the beauty, and the feeling of standing above the mountains as a new day began. I hope it brings a little bit of that peace and wonder to you.

This was a moment I will never forget! As I was leaving Glacier National Park in Montana, I discovered the Blackfeet Indian Memorial tucked down a ridge on the side of the road.

The sunlight was magical as a wildfire burning in the distance filled the air with a light veil of ash, transforming the sky into a rich golden glow.

The silhouette of the teepee against the glowing sky, the mountains fading into layers of blue, and the stillness surrounding me all came together in one incredible moment.

Some moments need to be captured so you don’t forget.

After months of planning, I'm excited to share my new photography website!

As I was building it, I realized it wasn't just about creating a new website. It was about creating a space that truly reflects who I am as a photographer today.

I'm Carrie Hanrahan, a fine art and travel photographer with a passion for capturing the beauty that's often overlooked. This is one of my favorite parts of what I do — helping a business create the exact feeling and mood they want their customers to experience. The right image doesn’t just decorate a space, it changes how it feels to be there.

Creating work like this is why I shoot photography in the first place. I love capturing places that made me feel something and then helping bring that same feeling into someone else’s space.
