Oh hi! It’s my face, something I used to show here a lot but haven’t much since I stopped riding. And those frames hanging just behind me? That’s my art. Me & some things I made that are launching next week.
Showing up can be vulnerable, and showing up with a new creative project and asking the world to receive it feels a wee bit like a humiliation ritual. I would maybe rather stand naked in front of a room full of people. (Not really, but I’m trying to make a point.) If you’ve started a business, made a career shift, launched a big project after months of working on it, or have ever done something ever so slightly intimidating, you know the feeling.
I can’t snap my fingers and wake up tomorrow with an established photography career, a well-padded savings account, and a barn full of saintly adult hunters. Wouldn’t that be magical! But I can be courageous and smile really big for the camera and believe that everything will be okay because it will be. I went to Italy to ride horses for a week and then the photos I took there sat for a year but now they’re seeing the light of day. That is a version of success in its own way, just as I hope the print collection launch will be a “success”. I will celebrate it and learn from it, whatever it may look like. And then I will be brave and creative all over again.
