The sh*t really piles up, particularly this time of year (back to school! indoors! wedding planning! okay that one may just be me). The only way out is through, so grab a shovel and start digging, or better yet our Sh*t to Do notepad and a pen, and start crossing things off that list 💩🪏

From shooting these images at Rivers Edge in Wellington earlier this year to illustrating horse p**p for the Sh*t to Do notepad (a project I took very seriously!) bringing all of this to life has been such a fun, rewarding process. No matter how hard we try to shake the identity—and goodness knows I tried!—being a horse girl is something that’s coded into our DNA. All roads lead back to the clippity cloppity sound of hooves that settles our heartbeats and lowers our blood pressure. We can try on different hobbies, we can grieve the horses we’ve lost, we can try to be fiscally responsible (emphasis on TRY). But we always find our way back, some way somehow.

There were creative and professional directions I thought I’d enjoy that weren’t right at all when I actually pursued them, leaving me to feel like the boy who cried wolf, announcing something on social media then renouncing it when I got the ick. I had to learn by trying other things that nothing is as close to my heart, as creatively inspiring, as playful, or as motivating as leaning all the way into being A Horse Girl. It’s a community like no other.

My website relaunches on Tuesday 8/4. It’s a celebration of the reason we fall in love with horses and continue to choose them.

Happy 250th birthday to the America I believe in, the one where we meet one another where we’re at, respect that we are free to believe different things, and try to leave the places we visit, people we encounter, and horses we pet a little better than we found them.

A quick note about how this image was created! I dug through my ribbons to find some of the very oldest in my collection (3 blue, 3 red, 3 white), then photographed each individually before arranging the flag in photoshop.

So far, 2026 has been the year the equestrian lifestyle grows beyond the confines of barn aisles and into mainstream fashion, interior design, and travel. For those of us who have accepted the “weird horse girl” moniker for many years, it’s so exciting to see the rest of the world embracing what we’ve always known: horses are cool!

Maybe that’s why now feels like the right time to release a body of work I’ve been sitting on for nearly an entire year, after a solo riding trip to Italy. I hope these images feel grounded and maybe even a little nostalgic, or like bringing a piece of the outdoors in. They’re for anyone who wants their home to feel warm and connected to nature.
