One year ago, J + B stood on top of a mountain in the Smokies with the people who matter most, a porch overlooking endless layers of mountains behind them, and rain softly sprinkling down around them.

Their day was slow, intentional, emotional, and full of the kind of moments that remind you weddings don’t need to be huge to feel unforgettable.

Still one of my favorite reminders that “perfect weather” is wildly overrated because this day was beautiful exactly as it was. Happy anniversary, you two! 🤍

They traded a packed timeline for winding paths, sunshine, and a dang near perfect spring day in Tennessee. Just wandering, soaking it all in, and doing this whole marriage thing their way… no stress, no rush, just them.

And honestly? It felt like one of those days that quietly says everything… I’ll be there for you… not as a lyric, but as a way of choosing each other, again and again.

Congrats to Mr. & Mrs. Dutra—you nailed this whole elopement thing 🌿

Hot take: you don’t have to hike to have an incredible elopement.

And listen…you know I love a good trail moment. Give me mountains and dirt under my boots any day.

But if that’s not you? Then it has no business being part of your wedding day.

Your location should actually mean something. Not just look good on Instagram.

The city you fell in love in. Your favorite streets. The place you always end up together.

Or somewhere that just feels right… calm, chaotic, quiet, loud…whatever your version of love looks like.

Because the best elopements don’t follow a formula, they reflect your real life…just a little more dressed up.

Little details, big spaces. You don’t have to choose.

When you’re planning an elopement somewhere like Zion National Park(or literally anywhere with views that make you go holy s**t), it’s easy to focus on the epic landscape. And don’t get me wrong… that part matters. A lot. But your day isn’t just the backdrop, it’s everything happening within it.

I get asked all the time if detail photos are really necessary for an elopement, and here’s the honest answer: they’re not about the “things,” they’re about the moments attached to them. Your hands shaking as you get ready together. The dirt on your boots. The way your partner looks at you when they think no one’s paying attention. That’s the stuff that actually tells the story.

So yeah, we’re absolutely going to chase the big, cinematic views… but we’re not skipping over the little pieces either. Because when it’s all said and done, those are the things that bring you right back to how it felt, not just where you were.

There’s something unreal about saying your vows before the world wakes up… when everything feels still, soft, and a little bit like it belongs only to you. No crowds. Just the sound of the water, the sky slowly waking up, and the two of you standing there like holy s**t, we’re really doing this.

And the best part? You don’t have to be dressed to the nines to make it meaningful. Pajamas. Barefoot. Messy hair. This is what it looks like to strip the day down to what actually matters. Being present, being together, and starting your marriage in a way that feels like YOU.

Sunrise vows hit different. The light is softer, the air is quieter, and everything feels more intentional. It’s slow, emotional, and honest. Like the world hasn’t quite caught up to you yet, and you get this little pocket of time where nothing else exists.

Whether it’s the Caribbean, the mountains, or your own backyard, this is your reminder that your elopement doesn’t have to follow any rules. You can keep it simple. You can keep it weird. You can keep it wildly, unapologetically yours. And I can show you how. Contact me through the link in my bio.

Golden hour is the real MVP of elopement days. ✨

When couples ask me whether they should plan their ceremony for sunrise or sunset, my answer is usually: both are incredible… it just depends on the vibe you want.

Here’s the quick breakdown:

Sunrise Elopements
• Soft, dreamy light right from the start
• Way fewer people around (especially in popular spots)
• Cooler temps if you’re hiking or exploring
• The whole rest of the day to celebrate, explore, or grab tacos and a beer after

Sunset Elopements
• That warm, glowy golden-hour magic leading into sunset
• Slower morning without alarms going off at 4am
• Epic colors in the sky if the conditions are right
• The option to keep the magic going with lanterns, headlamps, or stargazing

Why I usually steer couples away from midday:
• The sun is directly overhead which creates harsh shadows and bright highlights
• Lighting is much harder to work with in photos
• Popular locations tend to be way more crowded

Sunrise and sunset both give you that soft, flattering light that makes everything feel a little more magical… and honestly, that’s the kind of vibe most couples are going for when they choose to elope in the first place.

And if you add lanterns? Yeah… that’s when things get really good. 🔥

Colorado in the summer is insanely pretty. Wildflowers absolutely everywhere. Pockets of fog rolling through the mountains like they’re trying to be dramatic. Then five minutes later? Full sun. It’s chaotic in the best way.

This was one of those days where we genuinely had no idea what the weather was going to do. We hiked up in layers, watched the clouds move in, and instead of panicking… they just leaned into it. And that’s the magic of an elopement. You’re not performing. You’re just there.

When the fog wrapped around the peaks and the sun started cutting through it, they said their vows in the middle of wildflowers with wind in their hair and dirt on their boots. No aisle. No chairs. No one watching. Just the mountains and me quietly documenting it.

And this is why I’ll never shut up about Colorado summers. They feel alive. Unpredictable. A little wild. You can’t over-control a day like this…you just experience it.

If you’ve been craving something that feels more like this and less like a production, my job isn’t to plan every second for you. It’s to help you navigate the mountain logistics, find the kind of spot that fits your energy, and photograph it honestly. I’ve got a few June and July dates open still, so if this feels like your kind of day, the inquiry form on my website is where to start.

Everyone talks about the first look.

But can we talk about getting ready together instead?

There’s something wildly intimate about skipping the big reveal and choosing to be side by side from the start. Buttoning dresses. Zipping backs. Stealing soft glances in the mirror. Taking a deep breath together before the day really begins.

No production. No staged moment. Just you two… already in it together.

Some couples don’t want the build up. They don’t want to spend the morning separated. They want to laugh while figuring out cufflinks, help with earrings, pour coffee in wedding clothes, and feel the nerves settle because their person is right there.

And honestly? It can be even more emotional than a first look.

It slows the day down. It makes the whole thing feel intentional instead of performative. It turns “getting ready” into part of the story and not just something to rush through before the ceremony.

There’s no right way to elope.

But if the idea of starting your day together instead of apart makes your chest feel a little calmer?

That’s your answer.

Hot take: you don’t have to hike 8 miles at sunrise to have a badass elopement. 👀
If you want to, I’m lacing up my boots with you. But if your dream day looks like slow coffee on the porch of a cozy Airbnb, reading your vows under string lights, and popping champagne in your socks?
▪️That’s just as intentional.
▪️That’s just as meaningful.
▪️That’s still an adventure.

I’m an outdoor-loving, trail-chasing human… but I’m also a huge fan of creating a day that actually feels like you. Some couples want cliff edges and alpine lakes. Some want a secluded cabin in the woods with mountain views and zero audience. An Airbnb elopement gives you privacy, flexibility, and space to breathe. We can turn it into an experience… handwritten vows by the fireplace, a hot tub soak under the stars, board games and craft beer after dark. This isn’t about performing for Instagram. It’s about building a day you’ll want to relive forever.

You don’t have to earn your marriage with a summit. You don’t have to follow anyone else’s template. If hiking is your thing, hell yes. If staying barefoot on a deck overlooking the mountains is more your speed? I’m still all in. Your elopement gets to reflect your relationship. Laid-back, adventurous in your own way, experience-first, and completely yours. And I’ll even help you plan the whole thing.
