To see all the vegetation that emerges from the crater floor is simply amazing 💚 the hike down to the crater was relatively easy even with a 30 # pack and hiking sticks and i highly recommend everyone check it out. at sunrise, the crater remained vastly in shadow till almost 8am which was also quite nice!

- win some, lose some -

with ep22 putting on a great show last friday morning, i rushed over to capture it after work and during that excitement, the fountain had subsided after 10hrs of activity. although discouraged my dad and i still went to the park to witness the activity and it was still such a great time - the moon had risen and illuminated the caldera and the light mist sprinkled us as we enjoyed the long night down the devastation trail.

this wasn’t the first time i’ve flown over to the big island and barely missed the volcanic activity (fissure 8 and mauna loa eruptions too) but it’s still a great adventure. gotta stay positive and manage expectations. it was great to see family in kea’au and spend more time with them so that was an ultimate win!

did you manage to capture any of the recent episodes?

Waking up for sunrise is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ when the golden hour lights like this. Without much high-clouds in the sky, i had to get creative with the reflection and i ended up really liking the exposure and white balance. Hope you do too ☺️ have a great day!

Grabbed my NISI 105mm CPL and splashed around the shoreline waiting for sunrise while watching some native birds search for food! After traveling and being over-consumed by work.. a morning at the beach is a nice reset and reminder of what we have here at home 💚

Photo of the Month for April in my calendar :) in preparation to dive in Indonesia, i needed to practice with my housing and thought the shallow lagoons would be a great place only to be greater by a honu!

Spent some time checking out the Laysan albatross (Mōlī) chicks who are about 7-8 weeks old and learned a ton such as how they sit unattended while its parents are out at sea foraging for food and how they sit with their feet off the ground to cool off (see pic 6). It’s also interesting to see the adults with bands on their legs since it references their age, where it was born etc, similar to Nene too. Also saw a handful of whales playing off-shore (see pic 14), nice to see they’re still here!

Always nice to be outdoors - can’t wait to be back! Thanks for the teaching moments & 💚

Continuing on my journey around Moloka’i, got to see the famous sea cliffs on the north side overlooking Kalaupapa. It was really interesting to learn more about the history and landscape and one day. I’d like to return to see and learn more.

The view from East Moloka’i is spectacular - the winding roads along the coastline with undulating ridges above and emerald water below really remind me of Kaiwi coastline on O’ahu. I stoped on the side to take in the views because on this clear day, two neighboring islands were visible - Maui (on the left) and Lana’i (on the right)!! Can’t imagine always seeing islands so closely but wow is this a sight 💚 It’s Aloha Friday 🥳
