Everyone meet Smokey Rose, aka “Quintessa.” Quintessa is a nine-year-old mare bred by Peter Vasile 4 V’s Horse Ranch in Texas. She is by Barely Bridled and out of Marquetryinmotion, by Marquetry. Her pedigree also includes Unbridled, Roberto, Conquistador Cielo and Caller I. D. She made eleven starts and earned $1,080 on the track. Her best effort was a third place finish at Evangeline in Opelousas, Louisiana.
Quintessa made her final start in 2019 and is now owned by Paige Happ. Paige and Quintessa used to compete in Hunter/Jumpers. They transitioned to western riding after Quintessa was diagnosed with Kissing Spine. Paige trains with Loralyn DiMuro Thomas at her barn in North Carolina. Loralyn’s Thoroughbred Knight Court went through a similar diagnosis and transition. Quintessa still jumps with students, but at lower heights now. Paige hopes that ranch riding will make Quintessa more versatile and well-rounded, so that her son will be able to ride her when he’s old enough!
