While visiting Lawton Pond in Sea Pines on Hilton Head Island this past Saturday, I counted four distinct pairs of Black-bellied Whistling Ducks with their young swimming around the pond. I estimated there to be at least 30 young duckling in total. To say this is unusual for Lawton Pond is an understatement as in the past we have been lucky to see one pair with their young.
