My cousin janeasmithphotography and I were talking the other day about how much photography truly means to both of us, and it made me realize how hard it is to put that feeling into words.
Thereâs something about having a camera in my hands that makes me feel completely like myself. We talked about how we both notice something different in ourselves when weâre taking photosâa sense of joy, peace, and presence that we donât quite find anywhere else.
Photography has become so much more than taking pictures. Itâs a creative outlet, a way to connect with people and the world around me, and a place where I feel completely present.
I love is how different photography is from my work as a physical therapistâyet somehow, the two overlap more than I ever expected. Being a PT has taught me to pay attention to movement, body language, and all of the little details that make each person unique. That perspective has completely shaped the way I compose an image, anticipate movement, and notice the candid moments that I want to capture before theyâre gone.
Whether Iâm behind a camera or working with a patient, I think a lot of what I love comes down to the same thing: understanding people, appreciating movement, and noticing the moments and details that might otherwise be overlooked.
& as much as I love photography itself, itâs been even more special having someone in my life who truly gets it. Someone who understands that feeling without needing an explanation.
Iâm beyond grateful that something we both love so deeply has given us another way to connect. đ¤đˇ
