I don’t often get the chance to take individual portraits of my boy, my only son, especially because he absolutely hates having his photos taken. So when I asked him this past week if he would let me take some photos of him and he said yes, I grabbed my camera and ran out the door.

As a photographer and a mama, these are the moments that mean the most to me. Getting to slow down and capture this season of his life, especially as he turns 14, is something I’ll always be grateful for.

These photos mean a little more to me knowing how quickly these years are passing and how rarely I get him in front of my camera. And when you have a teenager who usually wants nothing to do with a camera, getting a yes feels even more special.

So thankful to be his mama, and so thankful he let me capture these memories of my boy.

Details of a Second Photographer

What a gorgeous wedding and venue I had the honor of second photographing this past Saturday, 09.26.26.

There is something so special about being able to step into someone else’s wedding day and document it from a different perspective. The quiet moments, the little details, the emotions, the laughter, and all of the beautiful in between moments that make a wedding day uniquely theirs.

I absolutely loved getting to be part of this one and capturing these memories alongside such a beautiful couple and their amazing photographer.

Give me a good storm after the calm. Give me the after party.

When everyone else is ready to head home, I’m ready to stay. This is where the night gets good. The music gets louder, the dancing gets better, the shoes come off, and everyone finally lets loose.

These are the moments that may be some of the most forgettable in the moment, but they will become some of the most memorable photographs you have from your wedding day.

I want to be right there in the middle of it with you, beat bopping around the dance floor, catching the laughs, the crazy dance moves, the hugs, the happy tears, and all the little moments happening between the people who came to celebrate you.

Your wedding reception isn’t something I want to simply document. I want to experience it with you.

And when you look back at your gallery years from now, I want you to be relieved you hired the photographer who stayed for the good stuff.

Almost four months later, and I’m still thinking about The Winstead wedding reception.
