My favorite part of working with my clients is getting to witness their unfolding and watching the twinkle on their eyes return to them. It watching them be human and feeling a deep and incredible honor to be the person they chose to not only capture it but witness it all in real times. Humans are the greatest love story, so if we have worked together, thank you, from the deepest parts of my heart for such a gift as grand as this.

I’m not creeped out, I’m creeped in. 😂

Maybe it’s because I’ve spent 20 years in healthcare but a body is just a body and getting excited is actual normal and nothing to fear or be ashamed of. I wouldn’t offer full ———ity if I wasn’t comfortable.

And guys, if THAT is what’s making you nervous about doing this with your partner… let your body react. You’re close to the person you love. It’s normal. You don’t need to be embarrassed.

Seven hundred dollars. Very reasonable. Practical, even. Think of what we’d save not hiring somebody every year. I did not save us one dollar. Ever.
What actually happened is that I got completely obsessed. I was working at the hospital and I’d sit between rounds teaching myself manual mode off the internet. Aperture, shutter, ISO, over and over, on my phone, at two in the morning, in scrubs.
Then people at work started asking me to photograph their families. Then they started paying me.
That’s the whole origin story. No plan. No business degree. A woman with a new baby who wanted an excuse to buy a camera and then could not put it down. Fifteen years later there’s a studio and more than a thousand people photographed, and the entire thing traces back to me justifying a purchase.
So if you’re waiting until you have a real reason to do something, I’d gently point out that mine was a lie about family photos.

The reason is usually just that you want to.

True story 😂 he booked my top experience for himself last year and yeah… he’s hot. But apparently that was the least interesting thing about him because he left with bang ass photos + videos AND his photographer as his girlfriend. 😏

And maybe I’m biased, but I think every couple deserves to look at themselves and be like… DAMN. That’s us?! Because seeing yourselves from a different perspective does something. You flirt a little harder. Touch a little more. Remember that underneath the schedules, responsibilities and regular ass life… you’re still two hot people who chose each other.

The woman you see at the beginning of this video is in a much smaller body. But all those flashes after? That was me in the biggest body I had ever lived in… traveling, dating, getting naked, getting photographed, wearing the swimsuit, going on adventures, being loved and living my fu***ng life. And couples, THIS is why I talk about “someday” so much. Because it’s so easy to accidentally make your body the gatekeeper of your relationship too. We’ll take the trip when we lose weight. I’ll wear that for you when I feel sexier. Don’t take my picture. Don’t touch my stomach. Maybe when I’m more confident. Maybe someday. And eventually your partner stops reaching, you stop initiating, you have fewer pictures together, you stop doing the spontaneous s**t and without even realizing it… you’re both waiting. I could’ve waited for the body I have now to start living, but thank GOD I didn’t. You cannot pause life and make it wait until you’re ready. Even by the time you finish reading this, you’re both a few minutes older. Life doesn’t wait, ask permission or give a s**t what people think, and neither should you. Lose the weight if you want. Get healthier. Get stronger. But LIVE and love each other while you’re doing it.

Posed versus photographed.

Posed is hand here, chin down, weight on the back foot, hold that. And it works. I use it constantly and every good photographer does, and anybody who tells you posing doesn’t matter has never had to fix a shoulder. Posing solves geometry, and geometry is a real problem that deserves a real skill.
Photographed is what happens after the geometry is handled. It’s when I stop arranging you and start waiting. When the two of you forget what your hands are doing because something else got your attention. When he says something under his breath and her face does the thing her face does. Same lighting. Same room. Same two people, three seconds apart. One of those images you’ll look at and say we look good. The other one, one of you is going to go quiet for a
second. And here’s the part nobody says out loud: the first is a prerequisite for the second. You can’t wait for a real moment while somebody’s shoulder is wrong. The posing buys you the room to stop posing.
