My most unpopular opinion about family photos-

You don’t have to wear matching or even coordinating outfits for family photos 🫣

I know, but hear me out.

I find that sometimes we can get so caught up in picking the picture perfect outfit, the best location, the right time of year, or when we finally slow down.

But realistically, there’s probably never going to be the absolute perfect circumstances for family photos.

And that’s okay.

Because when we let go let the kids bring a toy or have a say in their outfit, the smiles come easier.

You didn’t have to fight what they would wear because they got to bring their favorite weird hat for a few photos. Or they get to show off their favorite toy of this season.

And it’s precious.

They won’t be this age forever. They (most likely) won’t always fit into that crazy Dino explorer hat. But you’ll get to remember this moment.

You get to remember this season your family is currently in, knowing that next year it will be and feel different.

That’s why I’m here.

Let’s save those tiny hands, the excitement of a sweater with buttons, and berry juice running down their chins because it’s summer and you want to remember these moments the most.

🍓Meet the Chowning Family of .tn or as my son says, “real life strawberry farmers!”

Anna reached out to me to capture their farm and family to help make social media content a bit easier and to capture some family photos too.

This session was so special to me because I got a firsthand look at how our local farmers can make such a positive impact on the people of their community and beyond.

While we were there, one of their long time customers (pictured) visited to get his every other day helping of strawberries. You could tell immediately from their interaction how much like family the Chownings are to this man and how much he loves connecting and seeing this kids.

From the welcome to fresh strawberries (pre-picked or u-pick), strawberry slushies, the picnic area, photo prop cutouts, and fields, this strawberry farm located just 40 minutes north of Hendersonville, The Strawberry Patch is your place for family memories this spring.

Follow .tn for their hours and visit while it’s still strawberry season in TN.

Also, if you need a strawberry field session, I’m your girl! Reach out and let’s save your memories while the kids don’t mind strawberry juice stains 💕

This session almost didn’t happen.

She emailed me and apologized, saying we would have to reschedule.

Her family’s schedule changed.
She was feeling overwhelmed.
She wasn’t sure how long the kids would last.

She showed up anyway.

We worked through outfit selection.
We rescheduled.
We found a closer location.
We let the kids be kids.
We focused on connection over the perfect poses.

Seeing her joy during her session and hearing how thankful she is for her gallery, is why I plan sessions the way I do.

You don't need the perfect outfit, the perfect kids, or the perfect pose. Here's what really makes the difference–

Connection

At some point during my sessions I tell Mom & Dad that we're closing in gaps. That means we're getting cozy, hands are holding on, shoulders are touching, and even if the kids are exploring while you have a sweet moment with the youngest, that's okay!

When we start to overthink everything, we start losing that connection–we start wearing fake smiles, we start forcing poses that won't work, we stop being in the moment and stop seeing that even in this season, there is joy.
