Sunrise shots from the 2023 Dak Dillon Photography charter on the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad. This place at this time has been photographed to death, but it's hard to argue against the stunning shots it delivers. October 19-20, 2023

A recent charter on the reminded me of a previous charter in 2023, hosted by . The subjects were D&RGW 463 and D&RG 168, backdropped by the vibrant yellow of aspen trees during the peak of fall colors. Paired with a brilliant blue sky vacant of clouds, it made for one of, if not the most, beautiful charters I have attended. October 19-20, 2023

Some re-edits from my first visit to the Nevada Northern Railway in 2024 during their annual Winter Spectacular photo event. I was lucky enough to be one of the runner up winners of their young photographer scholarship. Had I not entered and won, I almost certainly wouldn't have known just how special this place is. Looking forward to the day I return. February 16-18, 2024

Big Boy Over Big Spring Creek. Steam washes over the wooden supports of the Big Spring Creek bridge as the world's largest operating steam locomotive races across the plains of Colorado. July 27, 2026

Back on Familiar Rails. The final stretch of Union Pacific "Big Boy" 4014's east coast tour took place in Colorado. Big Boy is no stranger to this territory, having wrapped up multiple previous journeys on this exact route. It was very fun to see friends out east chase and photograph Big Boy in their neck of the woods. One can dream that an east coast steam star can return the favor one day. July 27 & 29, 2026.

A Brief Moment of Autumn Steam. On the first day of the Colorado Railroad Museum's Harvest Haunt celebration in 2025, plans had to be changed due to high winds. Rio Grande Southern 20 was substituted with ex-Durango & Silverton diesel "Big Al" but not before 20 had a chance to pose among the stunning fall colors. October 18, 2025

The Single Static Sister. While Rio Grande Southern 20 and Denver & Rio Grande Western 315 were putting on a show, Denver & Rio Grande Western 318 could only watch on from the roundhouse. But at the end of the day, the cold engine got a chance to be in the spotlight, posing for photos as part of the reunited trio. May 16, 2026
