This is your sign to wear the red cowboy boots to your next portrait session ♥️🤠

Because honestly? I think your photos should feel like YOU instead of trying to make everything perfectly coordinated.

For this family’s session, Allison & Evan were celebrating their engagement, but their daughter Giavanna was just as much a part of their story. Her red cowboy boots and the red barn ended up being some of my favorite details from the session!

If you’re wondering what to wear for family photos, here’s my favorite starting point:

Pick 2-4 colors that go nicely together (I’ll send you some color palette recommendations!), then let everyone choose pieces that feel like themselves. A lil pattern, texture, or a pop of color can actually make the photos feel more personal and interesting.

Your family photos don’t need to look like everyone else’s. They should look like YOUR family 😉 so if your kid decides to wear the red cowboy boots? PERFECT. They might just make the photos even better ♥️

What I REALLY mean when I say, “Let your kids be kids” 🫶🏼

It doesn’t mean total chaos and no rules, it means trusting the process!

✨ Kids benefit when they have some time to warm up instead of feeling pressured to sit still and perform immediately
🌿 Exploring, playing, and being silly creates genuine smiles, not forced ones
📸 The candid moments often become the photos you’ll treasure most
🫶🏼 and once they’ve had a little fun? Those “everyone look at the camera and smile” photos become a whole lot easier

I think the best family photos come from creating an experience you’ll all remember long after the session is over, not from asking kids to sit perfectly still and follow directions for an hour, you know?

“Yes”

“Who will be included in this portrait session? Please include their names, and if appropriate, ages”
“Me and my family”

“Are there any must-have shots you have your heart set on capturing?”
“No”

The questionnaire is one of the best tools I have to get to know you before we ever meet. The little details help me recommend locations, plan prompts that fit your personalities, understand family dynamics, and create photos that feel authentic to you.

The more you tell me, the more personal our session becomes (that’s where the magic happens)!

The light on this late-spring rainy day with those vibrant greens? GORGEOUS! Gab & Peter’s engagement was so sweet & intimate at their family’s old property in Pottstown, Pa 💍✨

I’m still giggling thinking about how quickly Gab ripped off her rain jacket and sweater once she realized what was happening😂
