As photographers, we must strike a balance when it comes to editing and retouching. I love the process of taking an image and polishing it just enough and ensuring it will look great in print, while maintaining an otherwise natural appearance. Because let's face it... we're already feeling the fatigue of AI and fake images that are floating around on social media.
I never want to change the integrity of the image or make someone look like something they're not. Much of it comes down to the small details, like removing a necklace clasp or a piece of thread, while ensuring the dusting of freckles stay. Too much retouching, and an image can be confused for AI; not enough, and it would look too unfinished for a professional photo.
My senior clients have told me again and again that they chose me because of how I edit. One person told me that they're glad I didn't "airbrush" their skin, but the detailed editing made it known that they actually PAID for these photos... haha! This is especially important for my senior clients, because they value authenticity and individuality more than ever. And I want their images to feel timeless.
