The majority of my photography is of Nature, Buildings and Structures, and Flowers. Getting out on my own or with friends and family is a great way to recenter myself when life gets stressful. After visiting the Monastery of Panagia Tourliani, we had some time to simply wander through Ano Mera, and I’m glad we did.

What stood out to me wasn't one particular landmark. It was the village itself. The white buildings, colorful flowers, quiet streets, and little details around nearly every corner gave it such a quaint character.

There was also something about the pace of life here that caught my attention. Everything seemed a little more laid back and easygoing. After spending part of the day exploring Mykonos, it was nice to slow down, walk around, and photograph some of the everyday scenes along the way.

Sometimes a place doesn't need a major attraction to make you want to keep taking pictures. Sometimes it's just the character of the streets and what you notice while wandering.

What catches your eye first when you're exploring somewhere new: the landmarks or the little details along the way?

The simple white exterior offered only a small hint of the detail waiting inside.

Part two of our visit to the Monastery of Panagia Tourliani focuses on its ornate interior. Carved woodwork, gilded details, religious icons, chandeliers, and painted ceilings filled nearly every direction I looked. Each time I lowered my camera, another detail seemed to catch my attention.

The contrast between the monastery’s bright courtyard and richly decorated interior made this one of the most visually interesting stops of our Mykonos excursion.

Our second stop in Mykonos offered a little of everything.

We began with a plate of savory bites before touring the Monastery of Panagia Tourliani in Ano Mera. Outside, the bright marble façade, whitewashed courtyard, deep-blue sky, and blooming bougainvillea gave me plenty to photograph before we even stepped through the church doors.

This is part one of our visit. Part two will take a closer look inside.

Our first stop on our Mykonos excursion brought us to Ornos Beach.

The water was so clear that you could see straight through it near the shoreline. Beyond the beach, rocky cliffs rose from the water with white buildings scattered across the hillside. For a little while, it was enough to simply sit there and take it all in.

Our first excursion of the cruise brought us to Mykonos, Greece.

As we approached the island, I was immediately struck by the rugged, rocky landscape, the white buildings scattered across the hillsides, and water so blue and clear it almost looked unreal. It was a beautiful introduction to Mykonos and an exciting start to exploring the destinations ahead of us.

Sailing past Messina, Sicily, was one of those moments when the journey suddenly felt very real.

Seeing the coastal city stretching between the deep blue water and the mountains was amazing. This trip marked my first time traveling beyond the North American continent, making views like this especially memorable.

The moment the adventure officially began.

On June 26, 2026, I boarded the MSC Divina in Civitavecchia for my first cruise. Seeing the ship towering above the port was one thing, but stepping aboard with wonderful friends made the experience even more memorable.

From exploring the ship to watching the moonlight stretch across the sea that first night, it was an exciting beginning to a completely new experience.

One last morning stroll before the next part of the adventure began.

Civitavecchia greeted us with sunshine, blue skies, palm trees, and calm water as we walked along the waterfront with friends. We had a little time to explore and enjoy the morning before boarding our cruise, knowing an entirely new chapter of the trip was about to begin.

Sometimes the quieter moments between destinations become memories of their own.

Civitavecchia looked a little different after dark.

A night stroll with friends led us to this brightly lit Ferris wheel surrounded by palm trees. It was a colorful and unexpected sight during our first evening in Italy, and a fun reason to keep exploring after dinner.

My first evening in Italy began with a walk through Civitavecchia before dinner, taking in the waterfront, palm-lined streets, colorful buildings, and the evening light settling over the sea.

As memorable as finally arriving in Italy was, what meant the most was sharing that evening with people who made me feel welcome and included. It was a meaningful way to begin the adventure before boarding our cruise the next day.

We ended the evening over dinner as the sun dipped toward the Mediterranean, giving me one last scene to photograph. Before night fall changed the scene.
