I almost let this photo remain an idea in my head.
A photo I kept wanting to create with my daughters, but continued placing in the category of someday on my “to do” list.
Then I realized someday arrives quietly, and then it’s gone.
One day their faces will look older,
their hands bigger, their lives fuller.
And I’ll search my memory for this version of us...the way they leaned into me, the way home still looked like my arms, the thought that I am so incredibly lucky to be their mother.
So we made the time yesterday. I asked them to come with me into the studio, calling it my early Mother’s Day gift.
No perfect moment, no special occasion, just us as we are.
Photographs are not about perfection, they are about marking a moment in time so we can remember, honoring who we are, exactly as we are, while this moment in time still belongs to us.
