April 1st we celebrate my CANCER FREEiversary ❤️‍🔥

This year is the best one yet because after six years of exams every six months, my last CT scan in March came back CLEAR! NOTHING. There was a brief period of doubt, but the cancer stayed gone.

🏁It’s officially official: CANCER FREE.

if you’re new here, or enjoy personal lore ⤵️

in August of 2019 I had an abnormal pap.

After multiple procedures, more tests, and more surgeries my results were still coming back as cancerous.

In February of 2020 my incredible oncologist held my hands as she told me I would need a radical hysterectomy.

Devastated feels like an understatement.
I was so young - still am.
We wanted another baby so badly. We looked at freezing eggs but couldn’t get an appointment until later in the year. It was a decision that was ripped away from us in an instant. Months and months and months of gut punches and this felt like the final blow.

My hysterectomy had to happen as soon as possible. The only available date was for april fools day. You just have to laugh at that point! What a cruel preemptive prank, universe.

But, um, a global pandemic hit. It truly felt like every day since August 2019 was more worse than the last. My surgery date finally arrived but it would look a lot different from my other hospital experiences. Due to COVID restrictions no one was allowed inside the hospital with me. I had to do the hard part completely alone. No George. No family visits. Just me overnight in the COVID wing of the hospital while wearing a red bandana (because we didn’t have extra masks then!) I looked like a bandit lol It feels like a fever dream.

Now that we’re on the other side of it, it’s a good thing the hysterectomy happened though because that’s how she found the tumor. She thought it was just cancerous cells on my cervix. Nope. There was a whole tumor hiding!

It’s been a long, long, long, sad, devastating, grief filled journey that finally feels safe to breathe. There’s so much joy on the other side of this when it felt like there would never be ☀️

ICE OUT looks different when you’re a photographer. I don’t have a brick and mortar to close up for the day but, I’ve got a wallet to withhold, a voice to use and a platform.

I encourage you to do the same. If not now, when?

Your silence is oh so very loud. People notice. Your clients who are supposed to feel safe with you because you made it seem like you were safe notice. Your fellow wedding industry pals notice.

We notice when you still only use gendered terms like “bride and groom”.
We notice when you don’t have pronouns in your bio.
We notice when you broke your silence for Charlie Kirk.
We notice when you post your Chikfila.

There are a lot of vendors like me who will not refer our clients to brands and businesses who don’t align with our same views of human rights and bigotry.

I think since we work in an industry that’s so focused on love, love stories, and celebrations, it’s easy to forget that once we leave the event some of those people sit outside planned parenthood in a van with their church friends to coax women into said van to not get an abortion. (I wish I was making that up.) Or you’ll be working an event with someone who witnesses you get sexually harassed and go “yeah that happens sometimes” because they’ve attracted unsafe people as their clientele because they aren’t actively repelling those kind of people.

Be an actual ally or don’t. Allyship is a VERB. It’s action. It’s continuing. It’s on going. It’s public. It’s prominent. Or else it’s just performative. Which means you want to appear as someone loving and accepting to make money off of people, but you’re silent in heavy moments that actually matter.

So, are you a performative ally or do you actually mean it? Prove it. Use your platform. Have the hard conversations. I promise you, you will repel people you wouldn’t want as clients anyway. In turn, you will attract people who are so succinctly aligned with you, you will regret not doing this sooner.

DMs are always open for any fellow small business owners who need an ear, a pep talk, to commiserate, you name it, a pal to navigate with. This is a safe space to land 🖤

If you’re worried speaking out against fascism will hurt your business, then you are in alignment with fascism.

Silence is a betrayal to your clients and your community.

As always: Inclusivity, activism, allyship, and continued education are the core values of Eisley Images.

❤️‍🔥It’s a bigotry free zone❤️‍🔥

(This shouldn’t be a radical ethos to have)

I hope your holiday was exactly what you needed 🎄

if it wasn’t, I hope you may find some of the peace, joy, rest, warmth, and kindness out there. (it’s out there… even if it feels like we have to look a little harder for it nowadays) Chances are you are one of those things for someone. What a gift you are ✨

“They used to take baths together!”
“We still do!”

Sophie and Ian’s day was laugh, after laugh, sandwiched between the most thoughtful, and sentimental moments a lifetime in the making. If you’d ask anyone there, including their parents, if they ever thought this pairing possible they’d tell you no BUT then quickly follow it up with how much sense it makes. Two people who selflessly pour into others and their communities while having a shared joy of life and adventure.

Their wedding took place in the only spot that made sense: the same place their families have made a part of the DNA. Toasts at dusk on the front porch, a feast from .ma and dancing in the hall decorated for the first time with a feminine touch!

It was an honor to be a part of it all. This one will be on my heart for years to come 💖
