He’s been to one with every sibling in his house over the years, and he still plants himself front and center like the whole thing was his idea! lol

“My dog will NEVER sit still for photos.” 🙃

Perfect. Bring him anyway!

You get there and he’s off... nose down, tail going a mile a minute, totally ignoring you. You start apologizing. Don’t! 😂

Nobody’s asking for a sit-stay. He sniffs, he zooms, he gives you the side-eye when you say his name... and you just get to stand there laughing while I chase the good stuff.

Then somewhere in the middle of all that chaos, he flops down next to you and leans in like “okay fine, I’m done” 🐾

That’s the one you’ll love most. Not the posed one... the real one.

Archie is 17, and his mom has trusted me with his memories since 2014. Being the one she called for these means more than I can say and being part of their journey is truly a gift.

This time she knew exactly what she wanted: photos of him just as he is right now, at Homestead Park in Hilliard. It’s their park. They go all the time, and it’s always been special to them. Archie is the sweetest guy and he’ll steal your heart, I promise. I'm quite obsessed with him-xo

You don’t have to look hard to see what these two are to each other. It’s in every single frame. His head resting on her arm. His little paw in her open hand. Her forehead pressed right to his, like nobody else was there.

His dad was right there beside them, and it’s so easy to see how much he cares for and absolutely adores him.

Shortly after their session, Victoria and I just sat and talked. About Archie. About the changes she’s seeing. About what she wants to hold in her hands when she thinks of him. Two friends talking about dogs. It was actually really nice to just; chat.

Somewhere in that conversation it hit me. She didn’t need a session name telling her what stage Archie is in. She lives that every day. She needed time with her best friend, and photos of him just as he is.

That’s why these are Forever Friends Sessions now. Nobody is rushing. He sets the speed. He rests when he wants to, he leans into you the way he always does, and you just get to be with him and I just get to capture every minute.

Plot twist: This time, the nervous dog mom was me!

My own little crew just had their own portrait session WITH us, and I'm here to tell you, I had EVERY SINGLE worry that my clients feel.

Will my dogs behave and cooperate, or will I be the leader of the chaos? Will it be a total circus? Will we look good? Will we walk away with nothing?

Photographing dogs in Columbus is MY job and I still felt all of it. That is, until I saw our photos, and it was all the feels! No, my dogs didn't listen. Yes, they went in 4 different directions. Yes, Arica, our photographer, had the patience of a saint. Yes, we loved every single minute of it!

Meet Lady! She is a beautiful & precious ruby cavalier that’s incredibly sweet and gentle. For the first 4 years of her life, Lady has never known what it means to be a beloved pet & have a family. Lady spent her life being used for breeding instead of being loved, given gentle affection, & living inside a home with a family that loves her. Because of this Lady may be timid & shy when meeting new people. With patience, love, gentleness and kindness Lady begins to trust & when she does Lady becomes a devoted & loyal companion. It is truly a honor to watch her come out of her shell, gaining joy & confidence, and showing her precious/sweet personality. She is making consistent progress every day choosing to be brave 🥹. She now gives kisses to her foster mom, enjoys gentle pets, affection, snuggles, and follows her foster mom everywhere with her tail wagging. She adores other dogs and loves to play with them. She really enjoys chewing on dog 🦴& toys! Lady needs a kind, compassionate, understanding and patient family that will give her consistency & time to feel safe & adjust to her new surroundings. Lady needs at least one other small friendly dog in her future home so she can continue to learn how to be a happy dog. She would do well with much older patient & responsible children or an adult only home. She has little to no potty accidents when taken outside on a regular basis. She is crate trained & finds her crate as a safe place to decompress 😴 . She travels great in a car & taught herself to climb stairs. She is not cat tested. She is fully vetted, spayed, microchipped, & had a dental completed. Lady is ready to leave behind the breeding world and begin the life she’s always deserved that’s full of safety, love, and understanding. She is incredibly gentle, sweet, and has so much love to offer the family who gives her the time & chance. As her foster mom, I cannot say enough wonderful things about Lady💗 if interested submit your application and $20 application fee at Freedom Tails Ohio.

16 years ago today, we walked into the shelter to photograph dogs to get adopted. The first dog on the list was a 5 month old female papillon.

I remember saying "Crap. We are NOT going home with another dog. We're going to photograph her quickly and move on. Look at me, focus-we're not going home with another dog..."

There's a specific look old dogs give you. Not sad. Not tired. Just settled, like they've stopped needing to prove anything to anyone.

I see it constantly with senior dogs during sessions around Central Ohio, the slow blink, the lean into your leg instead of chasing the ball one more time. My own four dogs are all seniors, Jax just turned fifteen, and that settled look is exactly why I love photographing dogs at this stage of life (and I just booked my own photo shoot! More on that later- :)

Most people catch that look for a second and it passes. You get to be the one who actually held onto it.

If your dog's in that stage right now, the slower one, the grayer one, the one who watches more than he plays, comment SENIOR and I'll DM you on how to get them on the calendar before that look changes on you.
