Clients often tell me they just want digitals. Until they don't.

It's the same every time. The screen version is lovely. The album version is something else entirely. It has weight. It has pages that turn. It lives on the coffee table and gets picked up again and again. Your favorite images of your dog in such a beautiful way to hold on to them. Your favorite head tilt, the candid, the scenic, the stoic, the crazy personality shots. And every time you open it, your right back in that session.

People say "best friend" like it's a casual thing.

But your best friend is also the one who knows when you've had a bad day before you say a word. The one who's waiting at the door every single time. The one who does the full-body wiggle when you come home from getting the mail.

That's not a pet. That's a whole relationship.

Happy National Best Friends Day to every dog parent in Columbus who gets it. Your dog is your person. That's worth celebrating! (and honestly, worth photographing.)

One thing that makes outdoor sessions work really well and will take the edge of your dog a bit? Arriving a little early and just letting your dog s-n-i-f-f! Like really sniff!

Not walking. Not exploring. Just standing in one spot and letting them read the whole invisible newspaper that apparently exists in every patch of grass.

It sounds small, but it matters. A dog who's had five minutes to decompress and take in the environment is a completely different dog than one who just hopped out of the car. Calmer. More curious. More present.

By the time we actually start shooting, they've already decided this place is fine and these people are probably okay. That's when the real personality comes through.
