Jax is 15. He still meets greets me like it's the best surprise he's ever had! 🤩

Blossom is 16 and has strong opinions about which spot on the couch is hers. Spoiler: it's all of them. 🥰

Louie and Emmett have been with me for four years now. Four years. And I still don't have professional portraits of either of them.
I have four dogs. I have photographed exactly none of them as much as I should have. 🙃

I say this not to be hard on myself but because it's the truest thing I know about this work. Even the person whose entire life is dog photography gets busy, assumes there's more time, and looks up one day thinking "why don't I have more of this."

This month marks 16 years of Simply Dog Photography. Sixteen years of telling people not to wait. And this year, I'm finally taking my own advice.

He waits at the top of the stairs when you do laundry. Every time. That's just who he is!

Four years old. Part German Shepherd, part Husky, one hundred percent loyal in that deep, quiet way that makes you feel trusted.

Already have a dog at home? Good. Artemis absolutely thrives with other dogs. If your house has zoomie energy, he fits right in. He loves a long walk, a good game of fetch, and his dog bed at night like the reasonable, settled guy he is.

I loved working with him to get some adorable adoption photos. He was sooooo easy and he is stunning in person. The kind of face that stops you in your tracks!

Today is National Rescue Dog Day! I need a minute to talk about the chaotic, beautiful household of rescue dogs we've built!

Blossom came home from a high-kill shelter at five months old. I was there taking adoption photos and she was on my list. Sixteen years later she is still running this show with full fire and zero apologies. She is an absolute force and I am obsessed with her. 😍

Then there's Jax. He was supposed to be a temporary foster. He had other plans. His whole spastic, wild-child, I-do-what-I-want energy just dug in and never left. He's seriously like a tornado! 🌪️🤣

And then came the brothers. Louie and Emmett were dumped in the woods with their sisters during a thunderstorm in the summer of 2021. Emmett settled in like he'd always been here, bless his soul. Louie is... something else entirely. One minute he's the sweetest dog you've ever met. The next he's made a decision that cannot be explained by science or reason, and we are all just living in his world. We are a work in progress, Louie and I. He has aged me. I love him desperately. 😜😜😜😜😜

Four rescue dogs. Four completely different personalities. Zero regrets.

This is what adoption looks like in real life. Not always polished, not always easy, and one hundred percent worth it. If you're thinking about adopting, do it. Your house will never be quiet again and you will be so much better for it.
