I’ve been grappling with my image lately, perhaps like some of you. As the years fly by, our lives, faces, and bodies change. Many of us can’t help but compare ourselves to versions from the past that are now just memories. Self portraiture has always lent me a sort of therapeutic shelter when I can feel change ushering me forward. It’s something I’ve been investing in since I was a young teen. After each portrait, it shocks me just how fast time flys. We all quickly metamorphose and no longer reflect our younger selves.
Self portraiture has always played a pivotal role in me honing my skills and testing different concepts and lighting. Most importantly though, it serves to honor my younger self, no matter how uncomfortable or content, broken or whole. I feel every person and each chapter deserves to be seen and honored in this way.
I wish to honor each person I photograph, to bare witness to their individual identity and chapters of personal growth. I strive for this.
