Did you know?

The Dutch Shepherd comes in not just one, but three accepted coat varieties!

Many of you are very familiar with the short coated Dutchie. Lean, stripey, and athletic... Dutch Shepherds are originally designed to herd livestock and help with other chores on the farm. Like many other European herding breeds, the Dutch Shepherd's versatility has been harnessed for military, law enforcement, and competitive sports for generations.

Besides the well-known short coated variety, Dutch Shepherds also wear long coats and rough coats. At their core by standard, they are all the same stripey athlete, just with a different coat on top. Selective breeding practices have produced slightly different drives and temperaments across the coat types but many dedicated breeders strive to produce consistency so no matter which coat variety they focus on, their pups grow up to meet the intent of their breeder forefathers.
