Even though I’ve had a handful of lovely weddings this year, it never really FEELS like wedding season until after Memorial Day. After that, my weekends are more for work than play and my inbox is bursting. The rest is over, its go time.

I am a sucker for the quiet moments before a couple comes together on their wedding day. If I ever had a pro tip, it would be to schedule time alone together or alone with your photographer to get a little centering time before walking down the aisle. Loved ones mean well, but they can also bring the chaos to an already emotionally heightened moment.

When I was a child, I talked too much. Report cards would come in with good marks, but always with complaints that I was too busy telling stories. My grandfather, Scottish by way of Ireland, just told me I had the gift of craic. Maybe that’s why I love my job so much. Meeting strangers, leaving as family. Telling stories that are passed on for generations. The Celtic tradition of keeping the family story alive is a deep and beautiful one, and I’m proud to carry on the heritage.

Waiting for film scans can be agonizing. I don’t think I could ever part with digital photography if for no other reason than sweet immediate gratification. In the meantime, I’m excited to be able to stare at Leah and Peter all week while I edit their elopement in Kauai.
