A few things I believe lately:

“Timeless” is wildly overrated. Personal style is not.

A room with a view is a perfectly reasonable thing to care deeply about. So is the dress. And the place. And how you feel when you walk into both.

Good taste is wonderful. Knowing your own is better.

And maybe we’ve gotten “timeless” wrong anyway.

Timeless was never about making choices no one could place in a particular year. It’s about being completely yourself in the one you’re actually living.

Choose the thing you can’t stop thinking about. Go somewhere fabulous. Wear what feels like you. Be fully there with the people you love. Let the photographs hold all of it—the taste, the place, the choices, the way you loved each other, the version of you that existed right then.

Because years from now, no one who loves you will care whether something was on trend.

They’ll remember that you always wore that. That you loved that color. That you chose that place. That you laughed like that. That the two of you looked at each other that way.

That’s what remains.

Maybe that’s what timeless actually looks like.

And once you’ve made all those beautiful, thoughtful choices?

Go live in them.

Good taste gets your attention. Personal taste makes you remember someone.

Madison has both.

There’s an ease to the way she puts things together—beautiful things, unexpected details, pieces that feel current but completely her own. Nothing feels chosen simply because it’s what you’re supposed to like.

She and Ashe have always felt unmistakably themselves in front of my camera.

And maybe that’s what I love most about personal style. It isn’t about getting everything “right.”

It’s knowing what you like, and trusting yourself enough to choose it.

Madison + Ashe, in Austin.

Gigi’s house had always been Elizabeth’s summer haven. A place filled with her own memories, traditions, and the kind of familiarity that only comes from returning somewhere year after year.

When she and Justin decided to be married there, she told me how much she wanted it to begin feeling like his place, too. Not simply somewhere he visited because it belonged to her family, but somewhere they would build their own memories together.

And I loved that.

Their wedding weekend became one of the first chapters of that. The tent went up on the lawn. Their favorite people filled the house and wandered through the gardens. They danced outside until late into the night. And the next morning, Gigi’s house was still Gigi’s house—but now it held this, too.

I think that’s what a sense of place really means to me.

Somewhere can be beautiful without meaning anything to you. But when a place becomes part of the life you’re building together, it becomes part of the story.

A sense of place so easily can become a place of belonging.

There is so much beauty available to us now.

We can save it, pin it, screenshot it, send it to the group chat. We can build an entire visual world before a single decision has actually been made.

But I think the most interesting celebrations begin when the references start to fall away.

When you choose the thing because you love it, not because it belongs on the board. When the dress moves differently than it did in the fitting room. When the people you love finally arrive and bring all of their own energy into the room.

That’s when it becomes yours.

The places. The people. The beauty. The in-between.

A little bit of how I see a wedding day—and what I hope you’ll remember from yours.

I think the weddings I’m most drawn to have always felt a little lived in. Beautiful, yes, but never too precious. There’s texture and color, a strong sense of place, something deeply personal about what they chose to wear, and usually a point in the night when everyone completely forgets there’s a camera in the room.

It’s probably why I keep coming back to film, too. I love that it leaves room for all of it—the grain, the movement, the slightly imperfect frame that somehow feels more like the memory than the technically perfect one ever could.

Maybe that’s the whole point. Make thoughtful choices. Go somewhere worth the extra flight. Wear the thing that feels like you. And then live the hell out of it.

Notes on living, lately.
