Happy Labor Day to all who celebrate... especially the moms who took the name a little too literally 😂

And can we talk about how wildly different LABOR can look from one person to the next!?

Some moms are loud. Some barely make a sound.

Some need to move constantly, some find one position and do NOT want you asking them to move.

Some want their partner touching them through every contraction. Some will remove your hand from their body so fast you'll question every choice you've ever made 😂

Some labors take days. Some babies apparently have somewhere to be and come flying out.

There's no one right way to labor.

After almost 8 years of watching women give birth, that's still one of my favorite things about it. You can prepare and learn all the things, but when labor actually starts, you get to figure out what YOUR body wants.

And sometimes that looks nothing like what you thought it would.

Whewww this weekend has been BUSY 😂

Newborn snuggles, creek minis, and I even get to photograph a family I haven't seen in YEARS tonight!

I'm tired, my editing queue definitely didn't get any shorter, but this is the kind of busy that fills my cup.

Also.... creek sessions might be my new favorite thing! I knew I wanted water and play and movement and they did not disappoint 😍

My current vibe is basically purging my house while listening to ACOTAR and occasionally stopping to admire how clean the floor is because Rumi (our Roomba) vacuumed it for me 😂

We've lived in this house for 10 years and I've finally reached the stage where I want to get rid of EVERYTHING. Or maybe it's that I've reached this stage again....

Why do we own this?
When did we buy this?
Why have I moved this random object from one cabinet to another for six years instead of just GETTING RID OF IT!?

And the more stuff that leaves, the calmer my brain feels. It's like every donation bag physically removes three open tabs from my brain.

I'm sure I'll eventually lose steam and there will be a half-finished closet somewhere that I refuse to acknowledge for six months 😂 but right now I'm riding this wave as long as it'll take me.

Are you a ruthless purger or a "but what if I need this random cord in 11 years" person?

One of my favorite things about this job is when clients stop feeling like clients.
When they start texting me pictures of their babies.
When I run into them at the grocery store and end up talking for twenty minutes.
When they ask how MY kids are doing.
When they come back with another pregnancy.

I think that's one of the reasons I've been doing this for so long.

And every once in a while I look around and realize I have this whole little community of families that have trusted me through some of the biggest moments of their lives, and now I get to cheer them on as they keep growing.

It's a really humbling and amazing feeling!

If you've emailed me recently and I'm a little slower than usual... hi 😂

Summer is doing summer things.
The kids are in summer camp 3 days a week, but I'm still on call for births, we've been squeezing in camping and splash pads and park playdates every chance we get, and somewhere in the middle of all that I'm editing all these beautiful galleries.

I'm definitely behind.

I've been trying to remind myself lately that being busy because you're doing things you love feels really different than being busy because you're filling your calendar with things you don't.

Would I love to be caught up on editing? Absolutely!

Would I trade this full, messy, beautiful season for a perfectly empty calendar?

Not a freaking chance.

Now excuse me while I go edit after everyone goes to bed... again 😂

I have a question...
Why is it that the SECOND I sit down to edit, every child in my house suddenly needs me? 😂

Nobody needed a snack for the last hour.
Nobody was thirsty.
Nobody needed help finding a shoe.
Nobody wanted to tell me every detail about The Thundermans.

The SECOND Lightroom opens...

"Mommmmm?" and everyone wants to sit on me.

Do my kids have some secret radar that detects when I'm trying to concentrate or is this just part of motherhood? 😂

Please tell me I'm not alone because I refuse to believe I'm the only one whose children can sense productivity from three rooms away.

I keep coming back to creek sessions.

Barefoot kids.
Splashing in the water.
Maternity sessions with flowy dresses.
Families just playing instead of posing.

It feels very "summer in Colorado" to me and I can't decide if this is something everyone would love or if it's just the photographer side of my brain getting carried away 😂

So... tell me. If I offered creek minis, would you book one? Or is there something else you've been wishing I'd do?

We have a treadmill sitting in our living room that has been there for months.

I've used it exactly one time.

ONE. TIME.

Every day I look at it and think, "I should just get on for 10 minutes."

And then life happens.
The kids need something, I have editing to do, dinner needs made, I answer one email and suddenly it's bedtime.

I know ten minutes is better than zero minutes. I KNOW THIS.

So somebody please either motivate me or tell me your secret because apparently my treadmill is just for decoration😂
