Echoes of Ancient Drums

Long before mountain men and wagon wheels followed the trails across western Wyoming, Native peoples knew the high country around Union Pass. For generations, these mountains were hunting grounds, travel corridors and summer homes.

What happens when a photograph becomes the wall?

This is one of my favorite examples of what can be done with ultra-high-resolution landscape photography.

My photograph Denali with Lenticular Cloud Crown was licensed for this architectural-scale wall mural in a commercial tenant fitness center in Edina, Minnesota.

At this size, the photograph isn't simply artwork hanging in the room—it becomes part of the environment. The fitness equipment, columns, walls and other architectural elements all become part of how the image is experienced.

This is also where gigapixel photography really comes into its own. My landscapes are created with one to several billion captured pixels, providing enough real photographic detail to reproduce an image across an entire wall while retaining remarkable detail when viewed up close.

I love seeing one of my photographs make the transition from an image on my computer to something that can completely transform a physical space.

Exploring Nature One Billion Pixels at a Time

Every landscape tells countless stories.
Most photographs allow us to admire the view.
Gigapixel photography allows us to explore it.
Imagine standing before a mountain panorama where each step closer reveals something new—a distant elk hidden in a meadow, weathered textures in ancient granite, individual pine needles on a centuries-old tree, or climbers making their way along a high alpine ridge.
