A morning at Barr Lake State Park is never just about finding one species—it's about discovering whatever nature chooses to share.

Every visit tells a different story.

On this outing, I was fortunate to spend time with a majestic juvenile Bald Eagle, a brilliant Yellow-headed Blackbird glowing against the leafy greens, a protective pair of Canada Geese keeping watch over their tiny gosling, and a familiar American Robin perched quietly before continuing its morning rounds.

It's one of the things I love most about wildlife photography. You can head out with a single species in mind, only to be reminded that every walk holds countless opportunities if you're willing to slow down and pay attention.

Barr Lake continues to surprise me, and I can't wait to see what it reveals on my next visit.

There is something humbling about being in the presence of a bison. Their sheer size commands respect, but it's their calm confidence that leaves the greatest impression.

Once numbering in the tens of millions across North America, these magnificent animals came perilously close to disappearing forever. Thanks to dedicated conservation efforts, they remain a living symbol of resilience, strength, and the wild landscapes they have shaped for thousands of years.

Watching this bull graze peacefully in the golden morning light was a reminder that some of nature's greatest moments aren't filled with action—they're found in quiet observation.

Golden hour with one of Colorado's tiniest hunters.

For several quiet minutes, this little Burrowing Owl sat watching the prairie, studying every movement around it. Then, in an instant, it launched from its perch and disappeared across the grasslands.
These remarkable little owls spend much of their lives on the ground, nesting in underground burrows and bringing so much personality to the open prairie. Every encounter feels like a privilege.
Nature always has another story waiting for those willing to slow down and watch.

Downtown Reykjavík is full of brightly painted homes that bring a sense of warmth and personality to the city’s otherwise cool, North Atlantic landscape. Many of these houses are clad in corrugated metal—a practical choice for Iceland’s weather—but transformed with vivid reds, blues, yellows, and greens that make each street feel cheerful and distinct. The colors brighten long winter days, reflect the city’s creative spirit, and give Reykjavík its signature blend of charm, quirkiness, and Nordic character.
The rainbow road in downtown Reykjavík is a joyful burst of color, stretching up toward Hallgrímskirkja and symbolizing both pride and the city’s playful, artistic spirit. Reykjavík features a surprising amount of brutalist and mid‑century modern architecture, especially in its non‑residential and civic buildings. Many structures from the mid‑20th century use raw concrete, sharp geometric forms, and minimal ornamentation, reflecting both functionalist Nordic design and the practical need for durable materials in Iceland’s harsh climate. Among these photos are some non-residential buildings that I thought were interesting.

It’s the birthplace of the Alþingi, Iceland’s Viking‑age parliament founded in 930 AD, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized for its deep historical significance.
