Living to see your grandchildren become remarkable human beings is perhaps one of life's greatest rewards ❤️

Having lost my own grandmother just a few days before this session, being able to capture this photo and many others (including a 44 person whole family photo!) for my sweet neighbor, Phyllis, felt extra special.

✨ Sometimes, the most beautiful stories are the ones we never could have written ourselves. ✨

When I met up with Kaylene and Donald for their maternity session, I knew I was capturing something incredibly special. But the story behind these photos? It’s one I don’t think I’ll ever forget. 🥹

Their journey to parenthood began back in 2020. After years of hoping, waiting, and navigating the heartbreak of infertility, they made the decision to grow their family through surrogacy.

In 2024, they began the process of creating embryos, and by October of 2025, they had matched with their surrogate. Everything was falling into place, and their embryo transfer was scheduled for April 13, 2026.

But then, life had the most unbelievable surprise waiting for them.

On March 30th, just TWO WEEKS before their scheduled transfer, Kaylene found out that she was PREGNANT. On her own. After YEARS of trying. ❤️

Can you even imagine?!

After talking things through with their surrogate, they made the decision to continue forward with the transfer as planned.

And it was SUCCESSFUL. 🥹

Now, after years of wondering if their dreams of parenthood would ever come true, Kaylene and Donald are preparing to welcome not one, but TWO beautiful baby girls into the world.

And here’s the part that makes their story even more extraordinary…

Their daughters are due just SIX WEEKS APART! 🎀🎀

One little girl is due November 19th, and her little sister is expected December 30th.

Not quite twins, but two little miracles whose stories will forever be intertwined.

I can’t even begin to imagine the emotions that have come with this journey. The years of waiting. The difficult decisions. The hope. The uncertainty. And then, in the most unexpected way, the realization that their family was about to grow by TWO.

There’s something so incredibly beautiful about a story that takes so many unexpected turns and somehow leads to a future even more extraordinary than the one you originally imagined.

Kaylene and Donald, thank you for trusting me to capture such a remarkable chapter of your lives. Getting to document this season of anticipation, excitement, and overwhelming joy was truly an honor.

Your girls may not technically be twins, but I have a feeling they’re going to share a bond unlike any other.

Two babies. Two pregnancies. Two different due dates. One extraordinary love story. 💕

My engagement session with Cali and Mike was full of sun ☀️, laughs and one very cool guitar 🎸. I’ve known Cali a very long time and let me just say, pure happiness is her best look yet ❤️ I can’t wait to see these two say I do next month! 🥰

Some love stories are simply meant for the stage, and Alexis and Ian’s was nothing short of a standing ovation. ❤️

On Saturday, I had the absolute honor of photographing these two at Hickory Creek Event Center in Davenport, Iowa, and I’m still trying to find the words to describe just how special their day was.

Theater has played such a huge role in their love story, so it only made sense that their wedding felt like the most beautiful production of all. Every moment was filled with emotion, laughter, and SO much love. And let me tell you, their families showed UP for them. Aunts, uncles, and loved ones galore, all gathered to celebrate two people who were so clearly made for one another.

I found myself getting teary-eyed more times than I can count. Their first look, their vows, the heartfelt toasts, those first dances… each moment seemed to get me all over again.

But there was one moment I don’t think I’ll ever forget.

Their grand entrance.

When Alexis and Ian entered their reception, the ENTIRE room erupted. Their massive crowd of family and friends was on their feet, cheering, clapping, and celebrating with an energy I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever experienced quite like that before. The applause just kept going and going. My assistant and I looked at each other, both with tears in our eyes, because the amount of love filling that room was absolutely overwhelming.

As a photographer, you witness a lot of beautiful moments. But every once in a while, you get to witness something that reminds you exactly why you fell in love with this job in the first place. Saturday was one of those days.

Alexis and Ian, I hope you know just how loved you are. Not only by each other, but by the incredible village of people who surrounded you on your wedding day. Watching the two of you together, it’s so beautifully clear that your stories were always meant to become one. ❤️

To Alexis, Ian, and both of your wonderful families, thank you from the bottom of my heart for trusting me to capture this incredible day. It was an honor to have a front-row seat to the most beautiful production of all: your love story.

And if Saturday was any indication, I’d say these two have one heck of a beautiful next act ahead of them. 🎭❤️
