Dear Ross,

Today you turn 6 years old. You are in kindergarten. You are great at math. You are learning how to write cursive. Still obsessed with Pokémon, dinosaurs, and the Buffalo Bills. Your love for God continues to grow and you are always asking questions. You are such a little athlete but you also love to draw and look at science textbooks. You’re hilarious, handsome, and so kind. I’m constantly in awe of how you are able to show so much empathy and worry for others at your age. Your heart is so big.

Each year goes by faster. You change so quickly it’s hard for me to keep up. I find myself longing for the moment I am still in. The rare days you are still asleep in the morning before school I get to walk in an see you sleeping. You look like a baby again. So small, unaware of the world around you, delicate and in need of my protection. But then you wake up.

I love seeing you grow Rossie. I love how independent you are and how much you love to learn and try new things. I know each day you need me a little less cause you are 6 after all. (Big boy status) but I am always here.
My hope is you never stop saying, “Hey mom.” Me, “Ya?” You, “I love you.”

In June it will be 2 years since I photographed their courthouse ceremony. Month later they had a party to celebrate their love with family and friends. Now they are awaiting their baby boy to be born.
